I read about it a few years ago, saw a You Tube video where one of the engineers was praising all the high tech gizmo's and the plastic water and oil pumps. I only ever had ONE to do some touch up on in our shop, and it was a new stock unit. Did GM scrap it? No takers on that engine option?
Are you talking about the 4 cyl diesel that is available in the "midsize" trucks (Colorado/Canyon)? It supposedly makes tons of torque but it's a very expensive option ~ +5k to the vehicle price.
Sounds like the question is about the 2.7L turbo; 310 HP. If so, it’s still going, but it seems via my shopping observation that the bulk of production is the 5.3L V8. GMC dealer by me has (11) ‘20s : (1) is the 2.7L, (5) are the 3.0L TD and (5) are a mix of the 5.3 and 6.2.
I've had my fill of plastic water pumps on my wife's VW (gone now) and other plastic engine parts. Plastic oil pump is just scary! But I guess that is the future, and apparently the present...
Got one. 181hp & 369 ft/lbs@2000 rpm. I like it better than the high revving race car 3.6L v6 that they're putting in them. The 2.8L diesel 4 banger tows my 18' car trailer with my 66 Skylark and gets about 17 mpg doing it. With no trailer, I get around 28hwy and about 22city.
If I remember correctly, we got 1 in when they first came out. I don't think, at least up here, that most guys are interested in a 4 banger in a 1/2 ton, no matter how well it runs. We sell a lot of the 1/2 tons with the 3.0 Duramax and 5.3 still, nicer trucks guys spring for the 6.2 usually. 71 new trucks in stock according to our website and not 1 4 cylinder.
I attended my local gm dealer for an oil + filter change in my 2019 Regal. I toured the lot and I found a new Silverado with an I4 engine! Sya what?
Is the T-4 the base (fleet) engine or is it an option? If it’s a cost option, I doubt many buyers would add it vs. adding the V8. I see and hear a lot of turbo 6 Fords (kids put loud exhaust on and they sound like a long whistly fart). All the Chevies I see and hear are V8s. Patrick
^ Correct. The basest ‘base’ engine (no cost) is the 285/305 4.3L V6. 2.7L is an option over that in lower trims. A little higher and the 2.7L is standard, and the 5.3L becomes the upgrade + others).
I would love to get a 3.0L DM 1500 crew cab/standard bed - my '04 2500HD DM is getting tired @ 200K. Not the drivetrain, just everything else.
Craziest thing I've heard about the new 3.0L Duramax is the timing chain(or is it a belt, can't remember) is in the back of the motor. Yep, you have to pull the trans to change it.
