What grade hardware to use on block?

  1. I'm putting a timing cover back on my Nailhead and the bolts have long since disappeared. I plan on going to Home Depot and buying the needed bolts as soon as I figure out their lenght (I have a different post in the Nailhead section). An automotive friend of mine says any grade of bolt is fine- as long as it is above grade 5. Anyone agree or disagree? Anyone have any good reason to slap a grade 8 bolt in everything?

    Thanks,

I think that the more likely a bolt is too sieze, all the more reason to use grade 8. But, on the other hand, is grade 8 tougher to drill out?

You ought to buy a timing cover kit from TA or postons with ARP bolts. They will never break and look good too. Its always a problem when mixing aluminum and steel. The kit is not too expensive and money well spent.
