Good one Erik! I'll have to keep an eye out for that one when I'm on that side of the perimeter loop. I've always thought those were the best looking Rivieras... maybe I'll own one some day. I'll just need a bigger garage. :Brow:

Come to BG and look me up. I pit in the circle track. Shoul be somewhere near a slow stock sorta red 70 Stage 1 and some Chicago boys, and a little curly haired dude from Brunswick Ga. I guarantee you will have a blast around our crew.

And try to find Carl Rychlik with the gold 70 Stage 1. Just walk up and shake his hand.

Steve, I am also sorry that you had such a negative experience. When I made my initial trek to BPG in 2008, the people could not have been more welcoming even though I was personally acquainted with exactly one person prior to that time.

My first introduction to the small group at the host hotel went something like this: "Is this the Buick group?" D'oh
:Dou: Every one of them got up, shook my hand in warm welcome, and introduced themselves. I wasn't even driving my GS that week.

Over the next couple of days, a bunch of us pitched in to help Adam, aka Smartin do an engine swap AT THE TRACK!! Adam had hurt his numbers engine, and required another one to drive his Centurion back home. Thanks to all who helped, mission accomplished!! :beer

I have seen similar examples with other first time attendees over subsequent years. Most keep coming back, whether with a Buick or not. It just doesn't matter.

Of course, it takes two to tango, so arriving with a positive outlook and willingness to have fun always helps. :bglasses:

I will second Larry's statement. :TU: You Northeast guys are bat spit crazy nuts. Always have fun with you guys. :beer

And if you time it right, you will get some free food, like a delicious sausage dog or two! :TU:

    Jim,

What kind of relationship do you think the future new president of the GSCA will have in relationship to Bennett and the GS Nationals? Will it always remain a separate entity being run by different leaders? I will admit I do not know for certain how the current relationship is structured and have only heard opinions over the years, but it seems like the two are run much differently than it once was. Do you think both could be run with the same board of directors to help grow the club and the Nats in the future?

I have been to events with both types of people. ones where if you are not one of the boys ,have a high $$$ or the right car you are looked down at. Where the event organizers treat some people like a long lost son.
When I attended the 1983 GS nationals I had a ball. I was a 17 year old high school kid with a V6 powered 70 Stage 1 car. I was treated with respect. I was even asked by John Chamberlain to attend a call out with a 69 Chevelle.

Would love to do BG, problem is, here in the armpit of New England, travel time and my career commitments make it impossible to take more than a Sunday off. Maybe that's why I'm so grumpy and sarcastic.

Moon, I would love to meet you sometime, as you are an even bigger jackass than my brother in law...:moonu::beers2::beer

Oh, and I would trade my Buick for a matte grey Aventador in a heartbeat!

Thanks guys, will give it another try!:TU: mighta just been bad timing.

Sorry to say the Buick events at Epping are not a good example of the Buick community, the last 2 have been too early in the season and not promoted at all. I don't remember seeing anything on this board about it. Just a suggestion, come to the nostalgia event this Sunday, there is a small bunch of Buick guys that show up and its always a good time.
One of the best things I ever tried was a "one time"
trip to BG back in 2002, I have been back every year since and have found its really like a big family reunion except you actually like the family. I will make the necessary sacrifices during the year so I can get to BG as long as I can

I just visited a GM event today, and caught up with some Buick peeps I haven't seen for years. It was cool and motivational to see all the nice cars and I even spotted a Wildcat or two.

What I write now should NOT be taken as picking on anybody. First of all, all we Buick boys need to stick together and help each other, nobody else Will!
Second, we need to look forward and support the Buick clubs we have, no matter what. If we feel something has to change then let us all talk about it open and as adults, instead of mourning in the corners. We need to solve problems together.
Third, I know that we all dont have the same income and money can be tight, but if I only had to take my car and drive across the country to get to a club meeting 1-2 times a year then I would save money and be there everytime. Heck, I even consider attending the Nationals in October even though I will be at BPG in two weeks.

So let us all do What we can and keep our clubs alive.

    Just my two cents:)

BCA show is much earlier than normal this year. Buick Race Day has been this same weekend for a while, now. This is about the worst time of year for me to take vacation, and I'm burning a week for BPG, then working a week...then burning another week for BCA. Boss will hate me :)

    A few thoughts...

The people I've met through my GS, the GS Nationals and GSCA and all you folks are some of the smartest, most helpful and generous, fun people I've ever known.

A club is a fragile garden that needs a lot of attention to keep it thriving; it's not just flowers or turf or sturdy trees. Every business or attraction that depends on the public for its livelihood struggles with this.

Sometimes things happen that no expert could predict or prevent. The supposed smartest and most gifted sometimes get it wrong. New Coke for example.

Sometimes it's not a big happening that causes change, sometimes it's a matter of one Saturday or week or year all those 'on the fence' say "Why not, let's do this!" and on another they all, individually, say, "not this time, maybe next."

I will say after attending a local show today that poor advertising, cagy leadership, and a truck blasting "Sea Cruise" way too loudly earns exactly what they got--poor participation by the same old guys with the same old chevys and chevy powered steet rods sprinkled with the same lambo doored over detailed late models. Not a single Buick, no Olds, one Pontiac.
    Patrick
Oh, and for you folks around Atlanta, my car is a driver--40 miles each way into downtown ATL at least twice a week if not more.

Oh and I'll have the top down too. (Even though it's not a Buick)

I just hope next week is much warmer than today. Might get some snow here tonight. :puzzled: :eek2: :af:
