Well I went with 17's and I 'm so glad I did. I think the car needs to be dropped in the front about an inch but other than that I'm happy with the way it sits. They are 17x7 4''BS on front with a 235 50 17, and the rear are 17x8 4.81'' BS with 255 55 17.
What do you guys think?
By the way I threw in some pics of the new iron block LS2. PRC race heads that flow 313cfm at .600" lift, comp cam 232/238 dur. .595/.605 lift @.050 110 lobe sep. holley street hp carb.
I had a 462BBB that flew apart last fall. It was together for 7 years. It was a strong motor but the new LS2 blows the BBB away. Pretty funny really, 100 cubic inches smaller and makes 100 more hp. Technology is a wonderful thing!!!!!!!!!

Bryan,

I think it looks very nice :TU:
Maybe you should take another side shot of the car, but not under an angle like you did now.
That will make it easier to judge if it needs lowering at the front or not.

I like those wheels with it. Actually, I like the wheels and the tire size.

They look real nice. Might want to wait a year on those front springs they might settle in on their own.
Also, be sure and put a good harmonic balancer on that LS2, the ones from GM have problems with the rubber seperating from the hub sometimes. Mike D.

Love the look I did almost the same with my 67. As for the LS, that is the only way to go now. I have 415,000 kms on my 4.8 in my pick-up and it hasn't missed a beat, great motors. :)

wow it came out really good...i was skeptical on the tire sizes but it looks really good!!
i definitly agree with a front drop...
how much did it all cost?.....and what made ya choose the size and offset?..
any rubbing?...how much clearance do ya have?

Thanks everybody for the compliments. I was a bit worried about the tire size as well. I really like a meaty tire on back as it fills the wheel well and gives it more of a muscle look. I went with the 255 55 on the rear because they were 1'' taller than the more common 255 50. 27'' vs. 28'' The back is perfect with the stock size rearend. No rubbing anywhere and fills the wheel well perfect. The 255 55 tire is a uncommon size but after reading reviews on the Federal Super 595 I fell in love with them. Awsome tread pattern, and boy do these things hook after getting them warm.
Now the front. They did rub just a pinch on tight turns and when pulling into a steep driveway. But I found a solution. After checking my camber, I noticed the tire was almost straight up and down. After talking to detroit speed this is the worst setup on A-body cars because on turns the top of the tire rolls out and instead of having 9''s of thread on the pavement, you only have about 5''. By adjusting to a 2deg negitive camber, the top of the tire is pulled in towards the engine bay so on turns the tire is really at 0 deg. Oh my gosh did this make a difference. The car resonds 10x better and takes a turn much better. And by bringing the tire in on top guess what, NO MORE RUBBING! I am so pleased!
The tire and wheel combo was about $1700.00, but well worth it.

Sharp looking set up. Has a tough looking stance as it sets, in my opinion.

thanks again for the details...... after my motor swap i hope to join ya on new shoes

Wanna know what I think? I think its awesome that a complete rookie, like me who has little knowledge about this stuff has the balls to buy a Buick in the first place, can come on this web page and get dismissed for apparently asking a dumb question. OK your wheels look like a million bucks! Good for you! I kissed your ass and asked a legit question!! Excuse me for boring you "experts" for asking a question or two that may seem obvious (not the first but the last). Next time I will ask someone who knows a thing or two. Watch what happens after this post!

I'm not sure where that came from:grin:, but to answer your question, the 70-72 Skylark/GS has the biggest wheel wells and clearance. Back space for a 7" wheel is 4.25". Back space for an 8" is 4.5", back space for a 10" wheel is 5.5-5.625". Doesn't matter if the wheels are 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, or 18" or more. Back spacing requirements remain the same despite wheel height. I have P255/60R-15, on 15 X 7" wheels in the front, and P275/60R-15 on 15 X 8" wheels out back on my 70 GS. You can use bigger rims, just select a tire size that keeps the overall height of the tire/wheel as close to stock as possible. That will minimize a change to your gearing/speedometer accuracy. Stock tire height on the 70-72 Skylark/GS was about 26.6". Using larger wheels will necessitate using a wider tire with shorter sidewalls to keep the overall tire/wheel height close to stock. You can go taller, but your gearing will decrease numerically, and your speedometer will read low. It's easy to figure tire height from tire size with a calculator. The P255/55R-17 is 28" tall.

Sorry man that wasn't my intention. To be honest I haven't looked at this thread for awhile so this is the first time seeing this.

To answer your question, They are Torque Thrust 2 made by American Racing. I do not know about offsets on the 70-72. I'm sure other members can help you with that.
