    Strange thread but appropriate imo.

I will be changing the whale oil out of my '70 Skylarks diff because the diff gasket is leaking. May be several tomorrow's away. And it shall smell terrible. And the diff will certainly explode shortly thereafter.

Reprogramming the Flux Capacitor is on my to-do list, so I already did that next year on the first of April....[IMG][IMG][IMG]

We are skipping the Power Tour this year and driving Route 66 in this 66. Should be comfortable as the car has AC, tilt column, power windows and I had Bluetooth added to the factory AM/FM radio for hands free phone use. We will be traveling with a 69 Mach I and a 71 Nova too.

How much of Rt 66 can you still drive? I did it from Pasadena, CA to Joplin, MO many years ago. It was a great ride - enjoy!

  6. Max Damage

Max Damage I'm working on it!

Upon pressure from my wife, I have committed to having my car together for fall of 2025. Currently it's sitting with all trim removed and I am working on metal.

Mechanically still put together, but some minor attention needed there too (leaking steering hose, cracked brake flex hose, hole in muffler, etc.)

If she is still putting up with me, a road trip will be on the calander.

Pulling the left front spring and see why it's so noisy on bumps and dips in the road...

Before pulling the spring, check/test bushings.
ALSO, the hood bumpers on the cowl, (back of hood) get dried and will start creaking, squeaking on bumps/dips from chassis flex.
RARELY do springs, especially the fronts make noise unless you have a broken one. There under tremendous pressure and the pretty much don’t move around.

Hopefully getting the Buchev running in the next 10 days to two weeks. There isn't that much that needs to be done, but it's outside, and the mosquitoes have driven me inside twice today. If the county doesn't spray soon, not much work will be accomplished anytime soon.

You can still drive the entire route, but a lot of the old route is gone.
Here I'm parked on an original piece of Route 66 in Staunton, IL to visit Country Classic Cars.

Behind my truck you can see more of the original route 66.

when we went through to pick up the Reynolds car back in …oh, 2001? We drove it the whole way, I do believe. Great dinners and steak joints along the whole route. Best steaks I ever had. Ran into hundreds of cattle hauling trucks. Definitely cattle country.

What I am doing in the future, yesterday. is pulling the wrong block out replacing it with a correct SS and date coded block I found awhile back.

    Thanks for the input Mark!

All that stuff is only a couple years old, though. BTW... the springs are Eibach 1" lower springs, front & rear.

I’m going to trailer 65 Wildcat burgundy down to Charlotte Auto Fair, see my dad (92 yo), return Sunday , see eclipse Monday from the top of the mill.
Also finishing exhaust manifold clean up on the 67 Wildcat so the 2 post is free for some other jobs.

But this is where I’m being serious. Pretty hard to find a Stage1 block with an early build date. Got it about 10 years ago and a good block as well.
