What clutch to use in '65 GS?

When I first got my '65 GS I put a brand new centerforce gold clutch in it. The problem I have run into is that the clutch linkage does not have enough travel to get the right engagement for the diaphragm style clutch. It worked, but the engagement point was only about 1" off of the floor and it made for difficult driving. I know these cars came with a 3-finger style pressure plate.
What kind of clutch does everyone recommend using in these cars? I want to go on everyone elses experience so I don't have to do a bunch of experimentation on my own. I want a good high performance clutch that will stand up to some abuse.
I have already gone through all the linkage pieces and welded up all the holes/redrilled them to get rid of any wear/slop in the linkage.

In my manual it shows to be a diaphram clutch though?

The factory pressure plate is the diaphram style. I have a setup at home that a friend who owns a transmission shop says is heavy duty enough, and isn't too tough on your left leg. It still is a diaphram style.

    I can report back later.

The pictures I have seen in the manual show a three finger style clutch on the nailhead engines. I have one of the '65 GS supplement manuals--I will look at it again tonight. I know for a fact the small block cars (300 engine) came with a diaphragm style since one of my cars still had the original in it when I got it. Of course the pictures in the manual are not always the absolute gospel as to what came in the cars.

    Brian,

True enough. I forgot to check the clutch boxes last night, I'll do it later and report back tomorrow.

    Clutch

I have the Hayes street/strip disc with their street strip Borg and Beck pressure plate. It has three roller assist. I hear they hold well, but take quit a bit of leg to operate. I will let you know how it works when it is up and running.

The clutch and pressure plate I have that was recommended to me is brand named "LuK Repset" on the box. It's part number 04-049 and the manufacturer, or marketer is listed as Automotive Systems, Inc.

I have no experience with this clutch, but I have seen several of the same brand used on the street with no problems. The goal with this, as I stated above, is a setup that can be street driven regularly, is heavy-duty enough, and doesn't require unreasonable leg effort.
