cray1801 Too much is just right.

I never did get around to installing a choke on my 455. I'm running the SP-1 and J. Osbourne prepped 800 cfm Q-Jet (`73?). Is my only option an, electric? Part number recommendation? Here's a pictue...

Is there a plate/flat spot on the manifold to mount a coil?

Craig I am in the same boat as you, sure would be nice to have a choke.
Adam there is a flat spot on the manifold but if your heat crossover is plugged will a coil choke work? There has been one or two members that have installed kits that are electric that mount on the flat spot, but I have never seen one yet. They don't make one for the Buicks, there was a member that used one for a small block chevy and made it work. It would be nice to see that one.
    Thanks Rick

Hey thought Id throw my 2 cents in here.
I figured out a way to rig up a Holley electric choke on my '74 800 cfm Rock carb. Its a little hard to explain but it can be done and it worked perfect for me. If I get around to putting up a picture i will. But if you have a Holley electric choke lying around that you arent using, open up your choke box on the side of your Rock carb and compare the insides of both of them. Now, if you can be creative look at the both of them and how they work and basicly all you'd be doing is changing the cover and the choke arm. I did this sometime last July so i dont remember excatly how I did it without seeing it but it worked perfect! :Smarty: Give it a try! :3gears:

Carbs Unlimited http://www.carburetion.com/index.htm sells a kit similar to Andy's only electric. They don't list one for Buicks only Chevys. Somebody has one here but I can't remember who. I would like to see a pic of it installed, thats the one I would install.
    Thanks Rick

    I got mine at Postons

Cheap, maybe a few bucks. The I made the rod from a paint can handle (it is the right size and will not rust, I think). :bglasses:

Is there a choke on this page that could be made to work on my Buick Q-Jet? http://www.carburetion.com/choke2.asp

Fabrication is not a problem. Here a picture of the SP-1 intake's flat area below the carb. There is a nice flat spot with two potential threaded bolt holes. A coil could be mounted easily there but my heat cross-over is blocked. Would be a problem.

I'd guess I'm looking for a divorced type or electric. Thanks for the help so far...
