Hello, I am sure it is on here somewhere but I just spent a good hour looking and didn't find a clear cut answer, but what does everyone recommend using on the factory buick dual quad manifold? I have a 1965 425 (Mild cam, headers, etc) that i put in my 66 Skylark and have had some issue's with the factory carters? So I really have three scenario's 1) Have the original carters rebuilt by someone else! 2) Have the competition carters I have sitting on a shelf rebuilt and use them? 3) Buy new carbs (If so which one's and size?) Thanks Tom
Tom, I would go with either #1 or #2. If you have alot of money to spare, then #3 is another option. Call Carmen Faso in NY, and ask what a basic rebuild would cost. The old comp series AFB's should work okay too. You''l need new linkage tho. Do you know what size they are? Is there a number stamped on them? Anything from 500's to 750's will work. You can try giving the carbs a good cleaning. Take the top off and give it a good spraydown, with carb cleaner, get the passages too. Buy a new top gasket from NAPA, and I believe they have the accelerator pumps too. That is worth a try. What kind of issues are you having? Maybe it's something simple.
Tom, I'm using 2 Edelbrock Performers part 1404 (500 CFM's) with good luck 425 + .060 2x4 Weiand manifold with 2 inch primary 3 1/2 collectors headers, 3.90 or is it 3.91? gears Been running them for about 5 years Roger
