What carb and intake is this? 445

I found a 64 Wildcat in a yard and it had the 445 Engine in it (according to the sticker). What makes this engine different than mine (401) I believe. I took this picture, sorry for the bad quality, but would that carb and intake be an upgrade? Any other part on it that could help the performance on my car? Distributor looks like an aftermarket piece, could that be something, or is it just a cap maybe?

That engine is a nailhead; most common nailhead in '64 was the 425. Not much different from what you have. Carb and intake would be Carter AFB. Hard to tell for sure from that picture but carb looks about correct for that engine. I would not consider it an upgrade from your original '66 nailhead carb.

Looks like just a red distributor cap to me.

If your '66 has the Rochester Q-jet, that will outperform the AFB.
AFB has a square-bore intake, while the '66 Q-jet is a Spread bore.

    It came with this lid.

What makes the difference between the engines?

Nothing there that is different from what you have already, unless you have a rochester sq bore 4 bbl. the big factory improvement on these engines is the rochester q=jet. it would be a worthwhile swap.

If that has the ST400 Transmission you should contact Jim Wiese. He is looking for the torque converter and will buy it from you. He will send you a box with return shipping prepaid.

Do it for the man that owns the board.

    Thanks,

The Rochester Q-jet came only on the 1966 425 and about 130 Skylark GS's with the L-76 option. All the other Nailheads came with either a Carter AFB, or a Rochester 4-jet.

    Is your Wildcat a 425 with a Q-jet?
