I recently purchased a NOS timing cover and am looking forward to putting it on my engine but when I was installing the pump gear I have found that when it is installed it sits in at a slight angle. After making some measurements the post that is pressed into the cover appears to be at an angle and the gear sticks up on one side about 7 or 8 thousandths. I have attached a picture to try to show what I am talking about. I am very frustrated. Has anyone ever ran into a problem like this and is this cover usable? Any ideas? :ball: o No:
take the gear to the machinist and have it shaved? thats the one without the shaft right? have another oil gear set you can try?
I am taking the cover and gears to a machinist tomorrow. Hopefully we can determine a correction to the problem. Thanks.
yea a machineist should be able to mill that perpindicular to the shaft bearing. and also mill the end of the gears for the pump, or he can mill the inside of the housing (though much more difficult.) nate
Well, I have just returned from the machine shop and the verdict was not good. It appears that the cover was not machined properly during the manufacturing process. So much for NOS parts. We compared the cover to a couple of other ones in the shop and it is clearly defective.:ball: :ball:
