I was just wondering what "performance" mods i can do for free. This thing has some power as is....but it just isnt enough...and i want to do the freebies first. I already plan on taking the EGR assembly and throwing it into the woods. I dont know if the car has a catalytic converter on it...and if it does that will be cut off as well. How easy are the heads to port? is there a lot of room for improvement?? The Rochester 2 Squirter will be removed and hung on the wall as a reminder of what the darkest days of performance had to offer, and make way for a larger 4 bbl and aluminum intake. This engine has just barely 100k on it and it was babied by the original owner (who was about 88 yrs old when he sold it to me.) Any info would be appreciated:grin:
You'll be hard pressed to be able to do much for FREE...but cheap, yes. I would leave head porting up to the pro's. If you cut too much or into a water passage, your head is toast. Start simple with the things you mentioned. If you can get a cam for a decent price, throw it in while you have the intake off. free flip the air cleaner cover unside down and jack up the timing allitle as timing chain is probably worn thats about all you are gonna do for free. but put some big pipe duals on it with a 2200 convertor as i did with a 77 regal i had and for cheap it really woke up for 8to1 toy along with that 4barrel maybe a really hard shift kit it might not be fast but it will make more fun to drive . :TU: but if your really looking for a setup i has a 70 gs engine completely rebuilt with ta alum intake,hei dist with recurve,10.2 pistons,ta 310 cam,and all the oil mods these enginse need for long life,with a 350 trans and 2200 stallshould be in the reange of 360-390 horse.im in chicago if interested:beer
