About a week ago I saw an early eighties rusty beaten LeSabre slow down on the highway, his flashers were on. So I pulled along side him and asked what was wrong. He said "ran outta gas" so I followed behind him until his car stopped gliding in the gravel on the side of the road. I asked him if he needed a lift to the gas station about half a mile up ahead. Gave him a ride to the gas station and this is what got me, they had no gas cans so he could fill one up and go back to his car. No gas cans sold here, but they have 20 or 30 types of candy bars, someone explain that logic to me!!! So I asked if he wanted a ride to the local Farm and Fleet. He needed one so I drove him there. When he got back to the car he said, "do you have any time or are you in a hurry cause I'm gonna make this worth your while," what he said next blew me away "because I'm the owner of the Papa Murphys here in town". I pulls up to the Papa Murphys, he runs in and gets me two gift certificates for large pizzas!! I give him a ride back to his car, he thanks me and we go our separate ways. Did I say how much I love Papa Murphy's pizza!! Kind of a dumb story, but I figured I'd post it seeing as how much negativity we've all seen lately. Patrick
Sweet! It's a little scary picking up strangers nowadays, but it paid off in you situation. It's nice to rub shoulders with someone who is "big" and have no clue about it until later.
A friend and I stopped one winter to pull a lady out of a snow bank. When we got her out, she told us she owned a liquor store. She opened the trunk to a full load, and gave us a couple cases of beer. :beer You just never know. Jeff
true story about a month ago the phone rings and i answer. the guy on the other end asks for me by name. i tell him that it's me he's talking to. he goes on to explain about how 2 years ago he was in a car accident and myself and another man were the only two people who stopped to help him. i hardley remembered the accident until he described the cars involved. anyhow to make a long story short he had to sue the insurance company to get his car fixed. when it was all said and done, his car was taken care of and he came out 1,200.00 ahead. he wanted to give me 500.00 for helping and the other man 700.00. i told him i wasn't looking for anything and but he kept insisting on giving me this money.i'am a firm beliver in, if it sounds to good to be true, it usually is. he made arrangements to meet me a couple days later to give me the money, i met the guy on the same corner of the accident and he gave me a envalope with 5-100.00 bills in it. i still believe, if it sounds to good to be true, it usually is.
IT's nice to know some people still appreciate a helping hand. I had my van quit on me on the way home one night and some guy pulled over and offered to tow me home. When we got to my house I asked him what I could do for his time and trouble and he said, "Just help the next one." I try to give a hand where it's needed. Maybe this is just a case where it came back around but I will always help if I can. Like Red Green says, "We're all in this together."
A long time ago when we first got into racing, I was with my Dad at the track (Norwalk). We drove his Hornet there and in the 3rd or 4th round, his radiator broke loose and went into the fan as he banged 2nd gear. We were stranded, 45 minutes from home, at like midnight. And also felt the whole track hated us because he juiced at least 100 feet of the track with MANY gallons of antifreeze, that late into the night. Fellow racers helped push the car into the staging lanes. One of them offered to give us a ride home. We explained how we lived 45 minutes West of the track. He said it wasn't much out of his way, and he wanted to help. On the ride home, we were talking, and it turns out that he lived in Cleveland (90 minutes East of the track) He wouldn't accept anything from us for the ride either. Very nice guy! :TU:
Yeah I feel that way too man, even if I hadn't gotten anything out of it, I still feel I helped, and thats enough for me. Patrick
