I am sort of getting interested in a manual shift 4L80e's. They are all standard shift pattern. It seems lots of guys that do go manual with their 400's go to a reverse shift pattern. Why is the reverse pattern better? Any downsides? Thanx.
The advantage to the reverse pattern is that there is no way you will hit Neutral, or, god forbid, Reverse, when upshifting.
A friend of mine put a reverse pattern 400 in his race car years ago. I don't think it was his first, but he hadn't used one in a while. Anyways.....he goes out on the track and proceeded to shift the wrong way on the first shift. Ooops.... Next round, he had a little note for himself on the dash that read "Shift Down Stupid". :3gears:
My car came with a ratchet type shifter in the center console (standard pattern) so I have always stayed with that. I prefer pushing forward on the shifter because your back is somewhat braced against the seat. On the flip side, I am not aware of anyone that offers a trans brake with a standard pattern manual valve body. K
Though it's not quite related, my brother got a new SAAB (yuk), and he bragged about one of the fancy things that is supposed to make it so "great" - the "special" manual shift mode. I had to show him how to use it and why he might want to. Funny how such things can be great selling points to someone who has no clue.
I get slammed in the seat so hard upon launch, that it prevents me from having the strength to push a shifter forward to shift  , I have to pull it back...
