    A T-56 5 speed trans from a mustang with a different bellhousing might work(or an adapter if the bellhousing is intigrated with the rest of the trans).I think the 1st gear is 3.27:1,which will give you a 1st gear multiplicaion ratio of 8.371:1,from your anemic 6.502:1 you have now.And I think 5th gear is .75:1(not sure),which will give you a final drive of 1.92:1.Or a later model Camaro,Trans Am,or Firebird that was equipped with one.

    Not sure what will be needed to do this though,never done it,some of those transmissions may require a trans tunnel mod.The internet is a good tool to find out how to make it work,and the various gear ratios that came in what cars. There are even kits you can buy for your car,that will come with everything you need to do the swap. The link is just one of the many that offer a complete swap kit;

    Did you swap off the 69 heads? The 68-70 heads are supposed to flow much more gooder,and respond better to porting than the 71-81s.

    And yes,you would need to change the carrier to go from a 2 series gear,to a 3 series gear. As mentioned,you could go to a used 2.93 gear very cheap,if people don't trow them away,they will practically give them away,and probably include the carrier also.LOL

    The 69 heads cracked. 72 heads were available on a donor engine.
