I'm rebuilding a 455 that I bought without an oil pan. What year and model pans would work in my 71 GS?
    Thanks

I think any rear sump 455 pan should work. Some of the Rivs, I believe used a front sump pan.

Early Rivs used a center sump oil pan, the one from the 70 I had was a center sump. My buddy junked a 74 Riv and it had a rear sump pan. I don't know what pan the 71-73 rivs had but the body seems similar to the 74. I think the center sump pans were used because the rivs (70 and earlier at least) were rear steer cars. The pan's sump sat between the frame and the drag link (or center link, whatever). The rear sump pans were on the front steer cars. The sump sits behind the frame only. Hope that helps some.

    I have a similiar question,
My '67 400 oil pan is identical to the one off of my '70 455. However the oil pickup tube is longer on my '67 400. I was going to use the 5/8's oil pickup tube off of my '70 455 but now I don't know if I should. The 455 tube bolts up and clears everything, but it sits an inch or two further forward. Does anyone make or have a 5/8" tube for a 400 that's the same length as the stock 1/2"? Also what oil pans are interchangable between the 455' 430's and 400's for all years? just curious to know so I don't look like a fool anymore :) My oil pan is in great shape so I don't need a pan, maybe just a pick up tube
    I'd appreciate any advice

    Thank you,

All 400/430/455 oil pans will fit any 400/430/455 block with the pan's corresponding pick-up tube. The 2 main pans are the center sump, used on the early big cars with rear steer, though not all rear steer cars used center sump pans, and the rear sump pan used on all 455's from I believe 71 on. SOme 71 big cars may have still had center sump pans, I'm not 100% up on the full size cars.
There was also another pan used on the early 400's, like in the GS that was a rear sump but did not have the step at the rear, since these cars had factory dual exaust, there was no need to put the rear small step for the exhaust cross over pipe to pass behind.

This pan I believe used a slightly different pick-up tube, but should work with the regualr rear sump 5/8 tube as well. Put a baffle in the back of it and go. Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERPRISES.
