I pulled out the battery tray and I know everyone is shocked it was rusted under there. How do I get the "wet" out of there and do I POR-15 it and then paint. Do you clean it up with the old "COKE" trick. :Do No:

    Thanks Rick

There is an acid neutralizer sold in a spray can at most auto stores. However, to really get to the metal surfaces so as to preserve what you have left you need to take it apart, sand blast all surfaces , prime and top coat it. You cannot get to all the areas with it together.

After your done getting it fixed put a drycell battery in there.

A solution of baking soda and water will neutralize any sulphuric acid residue (wet) - apply as a paste, to affected area -let it sit on the surface and rinse the entire area with water after the solution stops bubbling. Repeat application (if needed).
as mentioned, you must use proper metal restoration technics to repair any damage to the metal surfaces. :TU:

Looks like it isn't rusted through very badly, only a few "pin holes" it looks like. I say do any and all of the above^^^recommendations and you should be fine with it. :TU:

Welp I hate to disagree but if you do not unlap the metal by taking it apart and getting rid of the rust on the back side it will continue on until you have nothing to work with. It is either take me apart now or take me a part later--which may not be too much later.

I don't like doing things twice. So it's all the way the first time.

    Thanks guys
