Hi Tonowando! I'm surprised nobody has welcomed you (officially) to the site yet! So... WELCOME!!!!! As you poke around on here you will discover there are people here who don't even own Buicks. They are here because we don't allow any bullying or trash talking. While we are VERY sensitive to how the Buick engines are treated and talked about, we are also open to any ideas a member has toward modifying his or her car. After you've been a Buick owner for a little while all the nasty comments and derision you receive begins to get under your skin, which is why I took umbridge with a couple of the show's comments. I meant no disrespect and am certainly very pleased he came on here and got information and also for the mention on the show! Keep poking around here. You'll see we're a fun group of guys. And if you are in Philly on the weekend of May 14th, stop in at my annual picnic and driveway sealer party: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lViO-ayhyc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHGH6oCMBwc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKPIaw_4Xok http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eSEnMHt_2w
In case no one has heard: The GSCA Nat's coverage will be getting some air time next weekend (Feb 12th-13th), at least that's what the producer told me. I assume it's mainly because they brought their Buick to the show and to wrap up the Buick project, but I'll take whatever coverage they give us. Watch for it!! Steve
Awesome job on the video man! Ive been watching it all morning when I get a chance. Any way to download that I wonder?
Given my location the link posted is the only way I can watch. Thanks! Speed is "ok" also which helps tremendous. 1 episode down!
In thinking about it I see why they would go with Edelbrock and other branded parts and not necessarily your favorite Buick vendor... Average Joe that might think of switching to Buick is unlikely to go to any place other than known names for parts. Think about it. How many people really spend a lot of time in forums to find the "best" vendor? For heads/intake? They already had good luck from the supplier for their Ford/Chevy/etc so what is the motivation? Even if you DO take the time there isn't any promise you wont get caught up in another block fiasco! Add in advertiser $ or any other variables and its no stretch to see why things are done a certain way. For all we know they were TOLD the valley pan gasket could be skipped.
Love that episode!!! CAR LOOKS COOL. One question, didn't they say 194 hp to the rear wheels? Did this car go high 13s or 14s at Bowling Green. Am I missing something or does that car only weigh 1000 lbs.?o No:
They ran it after the mods? Either way you KNOW they paid attention to tune before bringing it to that audience!
I like how they at least appear to be doing the work and getting dirty. I assume there is some magic of TV happening though with minions doing floor cleanup or block sanding. Dig the car. I like it a lot more after having watched all the episodes rather than a few pictures. Hope someday the questions others had get squared - like valley pan. Kinda curious.
I think the reason so many of us on this forum are uber-sensitive when it comes to our cars is because we've been the Rodney Dangerfield of marques forever, and it wears kind of thin after awhile. We are al VERY excited about the TV project and want all the best. Our fear, however, is that mismatched parts and/or erroneous information could lead to an underperforming engine, then we'd be the whipping boy again for no fault of our own. I can see it now: "Even all new parts can't make a Buick perform!" Nobody on here is stupid. We all know that the advertisers/sponsors will supply the parts they will use. And that's fine. But often manufacturers that aren't Buick-specific (like TA Performance) don't have all the answers, and that can hurt us in the long run. Case in point: that carb will underperform on that engine, cams MUST be degreed, and if they didn't use a valley pan that will certainly hurt performance too. I hope they can logon here and fill in the blanks for us. We all want the best outcome possible and will offer any support/help/effort we can if they need it. I have watched that show for years through all the iterations and still think it is a quality show.
How much does this car weigh? I'm assuming at least 4000lbs. It dyno'ed at 280 whp and ran a 13.8 in the quarter with crappy rubber. So, lets assume that they put some real tires on there and got a decent 60 time, they would be the 13.3-13.5 range at least. I just don't see it. Maybe it's a factor of the stall they are running or the dyno. But, they would have to be pushing at LEAST 300 to the wheels to run that time in a 2 ton car.
I'm betting they actually have an honest dyno. Plus they did say it was a tad under 4,000lbs. What that may be, who knows?
i finally saw the episode you can see my car twice in the show but its wayyyyyyyyyyy in the background..... scott
