What a beautiful weekend!! With a forecast of 75 degrees and low humidity, I was planning all week on getting to the track before the summer heat arrives for good in a week or two. I took my car down to Atco Raceway this weekend and it ran GREAT! Saturday, I went 8.99@149.35, 8.92@150.90, and 8.90@151.82!! I was so psyched that I decided (with a little prodding by Rick over the phone) to grab a motel room for the night and go back today and hit it again. My first pass was an 8.93@151.00 and my second was an 8.89@151.19! The corrected altitude was 1400 feet. Traction was awesome! She was standing up on the wheelie bars and carrying the front tires almost out to the 60 ft. cone. With my prior best being an 8.94@150.90, I'm obviously a happy (and tired) guy. I'll post the two best slips here for anyone who's interested. Take it easy, Doug.
YOU GO BOY!!! A big congrats on a bunch of consecutive reallllllllyyyyy fast runs from the left coast, doug!! apparently i shouldve chosen bowling green instead of norwalk for my starting point this year-wouldve gotten the chance to do norwalk in sept anyhow! lookin forward to seein you again in salem. keep well
Congrates Doug!!! We went to BunkerHill for Wild Bills event but got Flooded out, may try to go out Wed. with the Turd as I plan on going to the PRO event in Martin Mi. with Bobb, July 9-11, I want to run the Muscle car class with either the 12.0 index (shifting) or 12.5 (leaving it in drive), It went 12.21 last time out, I haven't opened the hood, other then to change the oil this spring so I'm thinking I might even "tune-on it" a little. Again congrates!
First of all let me say congrats on your new best pass! Very impressive!!! Last night while at a Turbo Buick club meeting that we have down here I got to talkin' with a guy named Alex that is originally from up your way (NJ) and he was tellin' me about how great your car ran at Atco on Saturday.... I was curious to see if you would post about it on here and I saw this post Got any pics and/or vids of your car?? Also, do you mind telling me how much the car weighs with you in it?? Sorry for the questions I'm just a fan of Buicks and yours is very badass so I had to ask TIA:beer Steve
Thanks for the pats on the back guys. Steve, My condolences on getting stuck with Alex. We had him long enough, now it's Florida's turn! My car weighs 2900 lbs with me in it. I don't have any pics of this weekend's runs yet, but here's one from an 8.94 from last November at E-Town. Thanks Again, Doug.
Doug, thanks for the pic :eek2: I've known Alex for a few years now.... He isn't sucha bad guy! Well at least that's the way I see it:laugh: Nah he's cool and VERY knowledgeable about these Turbo Buicks and most any other car.... Take care and keep up the good work with your car! :3gears: Steve
Doug, Those are some awesome passes!!! Great Job. So this is the first time your car has gone into the 8.80s? Did the 1.24 60ft time feel like a 1.24? Or not much different than any other pass? I haven't had my car out since BG to give you any updates. There is a track rental tomorrow so if I can get away from work I may head on out. Again.... GREAT JOB.
Rick, yes you may dare! The first light, I take responsibility for  . The second one wasn't my fault. They slipped a pro tree in on me with no warning! I had just hit the trans-brake button and wasn't even up on the rpms yet, when the lights all flashed at once. I'm still not sure why they did that, o No: but it's not too much of a concern to me now. :TU: John, yes it's the first time into the 8.80s and yes, it felt awesome launching with a 1.24.....as well as a couple of 1.25s:TU: The only one that felt "just ok' was the first run of the weekend (the 8.99) and I figure since that was only the third pass on the new tires, that it was the last "break-in pass" that they needed. Every pass after that, it left like a Super-Stock car...wheels up HIGH! I considered lowering the wheelie bars to take it down a bit, and maybe I should have, to see if it would go faster, but the ride was SO much fun the way it was that I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Thanks again, Doug. BTW, what was your best ET again?
Dougie, extra 30 mph on the back end is a BIG number.... gotta have some BIG power to do that. Congrat's Jim
Doug's the man!:beer Good air! I had to go to my daughter's graduation.....just couldn't get out of it since she was the Validictorian! Bruce
:beer :TU: :beer Way to GO, Doug !! Whats that I hear ?? Sweat falling off the Ohio boys foreheads ?? BPG Meet is only a few fistfull's of Sundays away
Doug.....upon closer inspection of the second time slip, I noticed that it almost took you longer to react then it did to hit the 60' ft mark. That's gotta be a great feeling. You have more MPH in the 1/8 than I make in the whole 1/4. Guess the 8.89 made the Bates Motel worth it and thanks for keeping us updated Saturday while you were running....to bad we couldn't report any good news back to you from our track. Around 9 more weeks until Quaker City......:beer
