Quick question. Wondering how much, approximately, does a Buick 400 motor for a 69 GS weigh in at? Needing to know the weight of a complete stock unit (heads, exhaust manifolds, carb, fuel pump, etc.) Then, i need to know approx weight of same engine, bored to 430, edelbrock performer intake, 850 cfm carb, headers, same iron heads done up to stage 1 specs. Guys, i don't expect exact figures, just ballpark. Curious of weight differences with mods & jumping up to a 455 motor with aluminum heads. Any ideas?:Do No: Really want to keep this 400 block, as it is the original for the car. Just curious if anybody knows approx. weights. Thanks for looking!:beer

I saw the engine weights printed somewhere, maybe a Buildsheet a couple issues ago?
I bored my 400 to 430 and went to a performer intake (definately some weight savings there) probably 20lbs, Sanden A/C compressor saved another 15-20lbs, mini hitorque starter another 10-15lbs. Shortie headers are pretty stout so I don't think I saved much there.
Can't say what the total would be.

Since guesses count, here are mine:

    400 as described, 650 lbs.
    After "rework", 625 lbs.

    Babeola,

That chart is kinda unclear. Does that include exhaust manifolds or headers? An Alternator?

    Interesting, however.
