1971 455 - Stock intake bare - 49 lbs. TA SP1 intake w/ 1 coolant plug - 23lbs. Bare head - 55lbs. Bare block w/ the 4 main caps and 8 bolts - 172 lbs.
I can tell you that trying to get that 49 pound intake to drop squarely on a 430 in the engine bay of a big car is not easy. It’s a heavy bugger when you are bent over and your arms are out straight.
Second that. I've been lucky. I've never pulled an iron intake and that went back on. Always an aluminum one replaced it. Probably what has saved my back. I bought an old Tahoe that had an intake oil leak. It was plastic and aluminum fuel injection piece so still not as heavy as a Buick but they guy I bought it from said he'd paid for a repair once already. I tore it apart and found they had slid the intake in instead of dropping it straight down. They smeared all the RTV and failed to get a good seal. I also found the fuel line bracket bolt that was missing, sitting by the distributor valley.
We're on a tangent, anyone remove and re-install a head on a diesel....now that is heavy. People think power lifters are strong. Some mechanics, including driveway and shade tree mechanics are strong. Im not sure how much a Ford 6.0 head weighs, but I know its the limit of my strength to lift one over the engine in the truck. The 71 455 I lifted an onto the scale after lifting from waist height, I had stacked on my complete 350. That is the weight limit I can safely toss around.
