Does anyone know where a guy can get the parts to rebuild your own waterpump?? They come apart easy enough. Be neat to do it yourself as a guy could save his original casting, use the impeller you want, probably save some money etc. Wouldn't be hard at all, just need the shaft assembly... They make them for chevy small blocks, which must have the cheapest rebuilt waterpumps in the world (and yes, the most common I guess), someone must make the kit for the buick big block...I mean they do rebuild them and those companies must get their parts somewhere... Thoughts? Later Tim
I kinda looked at that too... But I think they just break off the aluminum impeller, then press fit a new impeller on.o No: I think you would be better off sending your unit to a shop that will rebuild it, then send yours back. They are still cheap.:bglasses:
True enough on the reasonable $$ for the rebuilts, but I've had better luck with a new one on my roadster. The 462" BBB powered roadster is real easy to work on compared to a full-sized Buick with the front clip still on. If I was running a full-size Buick I'd spend the extra money for a new pump. Even so, not having to replace the roadsters water pump every couple of years has been nice.
Tim - I know someone who's business is rebuilding waterpumps (bigtime - like hundreds of thousands per year) and he's also a longtime hot rodder. He did my original and I swear its the key to my .040 over 455 running cool (with a 3 core rad. no less!!!) If you're interested PM me
Dan, I pulled mine apart with a little heat, took some messing around but got it apart ok, no damage to anything. As far as buying new, nobody carries them up here....I see that NAPA among others has new ones but only in the states, by the time I buy one of those and have it sent up here, be huge money (local stores can't get them, no idea why). If the shops are rebuilding them, then where do they get the parts?? later Tim
