I have replaced the o ring between the thermostat crossover and the timing cover, making sure to clean all surfaces. the fit of the oring was very tight, also the o ring was from my gasket set. when adding antifreeze the o ring still leaks. Has anyone in countered this before?

    jamhdit Just nuts about buick's

I good trick to make sure it seals is to put a washer under it. A valve spring shim washer works perfect.

Clean well, coat the recess for the 0-ring, the o-ring and the nipple with RTV, place the o-ring in the recess and slide the nipple into the the o-ring. Run a screw driver or similar down into the nipple to be sure excess RTV in not clogging the hole. It will always leak if you put the o-ring on the nipple.

thanks alot for the feedback, I have been putting the o ring on the nipple and not using any sealant. I will give it a try again tomorrow. Bought this car, 1966 skylark gs convertible, on ebay last June and have been correcting all the bad work done by the dealer. This is the first nailhead.
