have a 2004r BFR, rebuilt last year. Have a Edlebrock/carter 500 cfm carb. At the time did not have modified throttle plate adapter from TCI, so probably running stacked shifts (low pressure?)...wnated to get a sense of stall on converter. Was told easy way was to, put in drive, apply brakes, load engine, where it max's out is your stall speed. While doing that heard a very unhealthy rapping noise, kind of like running a piece of metal across a wash board. Could it have been clutches slipping on drum? (that would be negative). I am hoping maybe just rear brakes breaking loose (4 wheel manual drum). Trani seems to be running ok. Much better performance since I have throttle plate adapter.

Should I drop pan? OR do pressure test. Hey can you use a compression test gauge for eng? I assume NOT.

I'm not a tranny guy but it sounds like without the proper adjustment you didn't have enough pressure for the clutches to hold for your stall test.
Hopefully you got lucky and didn't fry anything. As mentioned check for burnt fluid and keep your fingers crossed:TU:

you can't use a comp tester, won't read acurately. Sounds like the clutch plates are either warped or bent. You may want to try a friction modifier. Clutch drum may be cracked/scored/clutch piston issue. "washboarding" to me is always a sign of either wavy plates or low/varying piston pressure. May even be a worn case(bleedoff). I could be way off base, but its been my experience.

I did not expect a bunch of good news...that would be a piss off...2500 miles a newly rebuilt trani and it would need to be pulled and vaccum more $$ from my wallet...Grrrr...anyway, I should not be jumping the gun...will check oil. Hey buick rat, what is a friction modifier.

check the simple things first.i'd check to see if the flywheel cover is rubbing.
