    Hello all!

When I converted my 2:73 open rear-end to a 3:08 POSI, I need to replace the speedometer driven gear. While my trans shop was able to get the correct 41 tooth gear, apparently they need a new driven gear *housing*

The current housing only fits the exsting 31 - 35 tooth gear, apparently.

This is for a 66 Skylark with an ST300 Auto trans.

Any help appreciated. PM or e-mail me with a cost. (albert@albertpenello.com)

    Thanks!

    Albert

    Albert,
It's called a sleeve. I'm not sure if the THM400 uses the same one or not. It fits an opening about 2" in diameter. The GM part # for the THM400 (gears 40-45) is 1362294. I ran it on www.gmpartsdirect.com and the price was 23.85

Call around to some other tranny shops and see if you can pick up a used one, they charged me $5.00. I went from a 2.56 gear to a 3.08 and I needed the 43 tooth gear with 295x50's. My speedometer is right on now!

Tim can you see what parts your tranny shop ordered? The local shop here is pretty familiar with old trannies (they actually had hard parts for my ST300 rebuild), but are having a hard time getting the part. If your guys have the parts I need I'd be happy to talk with them.

    Thanks!

Albert, my local tranny shop has many sleeves but they need to know the diameter of your old one. So take some measurements and even a picture of it and I will go look for one.

What do I need to take measurements of? The existing sleeve I have won't work for the 41 tooth gear so I want to make sure I get them the right info.

    Thanks!

Measure the opening in the side of the trans, into which the sleeve fits. Is it about 2" in diameter??
