Excellent!! Usually the bulb is NFG after 50 years. Just take the top lid off and replace it. You can get the bulb at any auto parts store

Funny thing. The 14 ga copper is too small. The size is most important. When the jumper was accidently ground the light came on on the radio didn't work. Back to operational again with aba bench only jumper. Lot off background noise. I wanted to change some CAPs. Cheers, Mike

There is an adjustment for antenna trim in the service manual. This will improve reception. You can also clean the tuner so it doesn't crackle when you adjust the volume.

Good point, I'll trim next. Next thing is to figure out how to add the GS/Skylark studs to the big car radio if possible.

You can probably go to Ace Hardware and get some aluminum rod. They usually have the little brass and aluminum display

Sorry for the thread hijack, OP...

I am having this issue with my am radio in my 66 Skylark.
I can barely hear the station when the radio is cranked all the way up.
Would this be the output transistor issue and if so, which one do I need?
    Thanks!

First thing I would do is test the radio with a known good speaker. The speaker needs to be 8-10 ohm

64 Buick Riviera Wonderbar AM Radio, volume of stations just squeak thru. Bench testing, looking for cold solder joints, running at 12.5 v and about 2 amps, the volume came up for a few seconds then went out. Light still on, no thump when you power on. The .68 ohm fuse resistor went out. Got some on order, don't feel like reassemble without a replacement DS-501. Has anyone tried the NTE105 power transistor?
    Thanks, Roger

Bill has some DS 501 transistors listed for sale.
