Theres a carpet kit on ebay im looking to purchase. Link:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...m=230205821509&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=013

I have a few questions though.

    1. Is this carpet kit ready to install? Do I need to purchase and install padding,or is the JUTE padding in the factory areas supplied with this carpet going to be good enough?

    2. Anyone purchased anything from this person? Is he a reputable seller. Saw some criticism about him at MOPARTS.COM and was wondering if anyone here has done business with the guy and how was the experience?

    3. Now about color. Someone here told me my interior code comes back as SADDLE. The supplier of the carpet kit above has 2 Saddle shades available(medium Saddle and Light Saddle) Which one is correct, and if niether is correct/incorrect,in everyones opinion and experience, what would look better?

I have inserted pics of my interior

One of the best carpets out there is made by ACC. If you do a search here on the board you'll find various positive comments. If you decide to purchase an ACC carpet, it's cheaper to go through 1aauto.com than through ACC directly.

    Check this link out.

If you search for carpet installation, specifically by user name "Duane", you'll find some advice on installation. I believe an important point is that the padding that comes with the new carpet is not as thick as it should be and makes the carpet appear to be "short". If I recall, he recommends using the padding from your old carpet under the new carpet to make up the difference.

Someone else will have to help you with your question on color.

    Good Luck!

Theres a problem with using my existing carpet... The car came with no carpet at all when I bought it.

I've heard the ACC capets were well made and affordable. I bought a carpet kit from OPG for my 71. They let me request a sample color piece as I needed sandalwood and didn't want to order the wrong color. If you do not get an answer on what shade of saddle to use try requesting sample piece of the two carpet colors so you can match it up in person.

Your interior looks like pretty nice condition - it's possible that the reason why it doesn't have a carpet is that it may have come from the factory with the rubber connecting mats instead of a carpet as that was an option I believe. If you order a carpet and you need to build it up a bit higher so it doesn't appear short you could always order extra underlaying material.

The correct shade of carpet for your 71 is Dark Saddle as specified in the 71 Buick assembly manual. I have the same color in my car. You may want to check for that shade from ACC as they have good stuff. I did not see dark saddle in there listings but they may have it. Original Parts Group sells a Dorsett Industries Carpet that they say is original manufacturer and they do list a dark saddle and have picture in their catalog. You may want to check with them on a price as well. I know they just tend to be a bit slower in shipping stuff.

By the looks of your floor you will need some sound deadener as well. Check with Ames Performance Pontiac as they sell original tar type. The more rubbery stuff is crap and the Dynamat brand will break the bank.

I ve checked over at Ames as suggested. They list two variations of the floor insulation kit. Is this the sound deadener you speak of?

One is paper backed and the other isnt, which is better?

I believe it is the paper backed. They note it as original type I think. If they don't ask them. I think the more rubber type may cause rust by trapping moisture.

I was planning on getting my carpet at NPD and they have a listing for 68-72 Chevelle. I believe the Buick Skylark and Chevelle have the same floorpan - is that correct?

Just to let you know, RockAuto sells ACC carpet starting at $113.79. They also have some with "mass back" that has additional padding, etc... for $146.79. I didn't check shipping costs.

I also posted a coupon code to get an additional 5% off RockAuto purchases yesterday. As far as colors go, they don't have the Dark Saddle color. They do list OE colors of Fawn Sandalwood and Ivy Gold though???

The only place to be careful is if you have a stick car. The Chevelle hump is totally different. If you do have a stick, order the auto carpet and you'll be good to go!
