Hi guys, Some of you know about my Riviera Build that I am documenting on Facebook. Well, I finally finished up my low mount brackets. So, take a look and notice how the accessories have "disappeared". I painted them all black because I am taking the approach of only "showcasing" the Nailhead...nothing else. Once the inner fenders are on, It will look almost naked compared to having everything on top. I think it is pretty cool, so forgive me if I am too excited. Here is the link again to check it out... Hi Guys, I was editing in there so it wouldn't come up. Give it a go now and let me know what you think. Thanks to all you other fellas that offered some very kind words. http://www.facebook.com/pages/1965-Buick-Riviera/149461030162 Dave
The sharp corners of the upper rad tube and thermostat housing are going to be a disaster for water flow. Smooth bends would be much more appropriate. Other than that...looks good.
You may be right about the bends, and changes can still be made by incorporating radiused 90's instead. BUT, isn't there some pretty sharp 90's inside the radiator and also inside the block and heads? I certainly agree that a smooth flow would be better, but doesn't the 15 or so lbs of pressure overcome some of these concerns? I can also understand some concerns about long term deposits in "corners" but this will not be a 100,000 mile car and I am certain maintenance will not be ignored with this level of car. I do not pretend to be an engineer so I am not arguing a side, and will certainly listen to reason. This is not a QTR mile racer but I still want it to be as right as the form versus function argument will allow. Dave
That motor looks awesome. How do you think the paint will fare on the aluminum? I would like to give it a shot myself but am afraid of peeling...
Good question. I have painted radiators with high temp engine enamel and I am assuming the same paint will work on my pipe. We'll see, huh? Dave
I was thinking more about the valve covers/ valley pan, etc. Did you spray or hand paint the finned aluminum? .......And does anyone know the original engine color of a 66 riv?
Angelo, I use POR 15 engine enamel which has a very high content of solids in their paint. Their product is truly amazing. I don't think it will be an issue as the covers are not nearly the hottest part of the engine. I would not attempt to use it on the exhaust manifolds and it also does not work well on a 455 Buick engine near the exhaust ports. This is labeled as Buick Green and I believe it is right on or really close to being correct Dave
.....just always weary of painitng aluminum, then again youre right in saying none of it gets hot (maybe except your pipe). If the paint performs well, it will likely be ok. I will prob give it a shot. Did you mask the fins and spray, or do it by hand?
