With noise becoming more & more of an issue at all the tracks, I saw these muffler inserts from Dynatech, and was wondering if anybody has tried them, and how do they work? Thanks CLICK HERE
John jr has them in the Skyhawk. He said they helped enough with his Borlas to pass the decibal test at E-Town after failing last year with just the Borlas alone.
i have a set of 4 inch borla mufflers on my skyhawk and the car was 96 decibels during a burnout according to englishtown. I installed the inserts into the backside of the mufflers right before the turndowns. Proper location is the headers I just wanted easy removal for testing. According to englishtown this year my car was 89 decibels during the burnout. At cecil county last week i did a performance test. With or without the mufflers (2 borla's and the inserts) the only difference was .02 in et. The only noticeable difference was a lot louder and more fumes in the car. I also did this at bowling green this year and the difference there was .03 but that could have been due to the track. If someone was going to get mufflers I recommend using a good straight thru muffler like the borla and the inserts will just quiet it a little more. According to anyone that has seen my car they say you cant hear it on the top end at all and barely hear it going down the track.
Thanks John. I knew you were running the Borla's, but i did not know you also had the inserts, and your car is very quiet. Rob
We run them in the collectors of the regal it made a big difference in the car it was almost intolerable in the car before now its only semi intolerable
I like the noise my car makes, and I absolutely hate, hate, HATE the sickly, Mustang sound that my car makes with the Flowmasters on. Thankfully, the only time they are on is when I warm it up at the shop (Stage1 Auto) or on Saturday at E-Town during Buick weekend. If it was up to me, my car would be even LOUDER. Die mufflers, DIE!! (I know, I know, I'm sick.) The only reason I might go for the 4-inch Borlas with the Vortec inserts like John, is because of the performance end of it. My Flowmasters are heavy and they are 3 1/2 inch. My collectors are 4-inch, so obviously John's Borlas would flow better and I'd guess they're lighter too. I just don't know if it's worth the $ for the few times that I use mufflers.
We saw no loss or gain we just wanted to take the edge off it. They collectors dump right under the drivers feet and it was just unbearable in the car. The insert took just enough out of it to help that you can sit and let it run now. Doug You need to get rid of those flowmasters I have had four buddy's try them and every one of they slowed down. Mind you they all run chevy'so No: but they did slow down. I think the best thing flowmaster has going for them is a good marketing dept. Cause they ain't worth a S*&^t. Thats just my opinion and we now what its worth
dougs flowmasters are the set that was on my old clone car now owned by dave saye. They were on there when the stock driveshaft exploded on the chassis dyno at 125 mph. they had to be repaired after that. That is how doug got them. Before the damage they only cost 4 horsepower though. The second set seem to cost a little more if you add in the cost of the shaft, floor repair, new trans, converter, and a new complete rear gear. Mind you the rear gear was just installed that day. I guess that is why you should not go 10's with a stock driveshaft.
Mufflers? What's that? ...the loudness of my racecar makes up for its slowness... :Brow: Good real-world info here guys. I may try the inserts, so I can save my hearing that much more.
