Ok guys I need an oem regulator for my 1971 GS 350 year on has one but it states it only up to 1970 do you think it will work ? Its a external reg and need to be stock. I bought on from auto zone just to test and make sure the light went out and it works fine. but my car is not restored but look and runs like new so non oem parts is out of the ?

You need the voltage regulator that is designed for your car. If I know Year One, they like money, and if it would work for the '71, they'd list it for a '71 GS350 more than likely

With things like voltage regulators, don't guess and suppose, know the correct one

The car isn't restored...but you cannot have an autozone regulator on the firewall? I've been doing this for years, and let me give you a bit of advice- make the car run correctly first and then worry about perfection, especially with something as simply replaced as the voltage regulator

Install your properly working autozone regulator. In the meantime, there is no law that says you cannot still search for the perfect OEM regulator from 1971 still in it's original packaging, and correct 'Delco Remy' staggered script. When you get the proper Delco part, install it. I know we love our cars and everything, but a voltage regulator with a silver cover would never ever stop me from enjoying the car, and if anyone commented on the silver cover, I'd tell him or her to go get me the right one, chop chop

Of course, there is a compromise. Put your original cover on the autozone regulator. Drill out the autozone regulator's rivets, and swap your proper cover on. Simple.

I found a regulator at NAPA Its the right one and the cover is removeable so that what I am going to do the autozone reg cover is nor easy to remove they had the bright idea to glue it on with my regulator cover on ith napa one no one will ever know. No the car is not restored but only has 70k it was only driven as a normal car the first two years then traded back in and never left the dealer untill I bought it 5 years agoso if had to drive it with the az reg I would but i would not open the hood at shows

    Thanks

CarQuest EC VR103 works for my '71 350 Skylark. Solid state, changed the cover & put the old AC Delco on it. No doubt have to eat the warranty by doing this.
My number is for CarQuest in Canada.
