I have decided to put the vinyl top back on my 72. But the previous owner took the trim off and cut the mounting studs off! What years will interchange and what about the studs? Also What color should the top be? The int is white and black.

70-72 trim is what you need. As far as the top, you'll have to have some one on the board decode your body tag to see what the original color was.

The original studs were spot welded onto the bare sheetmetal--you can do this (if you have the stud gun, studs, etc) but not worth buying one just to put these on.

Hopefully Mike Garrison will pop up here ---- I think he has riveted the plastic trim connectors to the sheetmetal with success.

Remember to get the die cast lower/rear vinyl top corners---and be aware the 4 door ones are different from the 2 door ones --so don't get those. The die casts will be the hardest thing to find in good shape.

Also--if you order a top then make sure it is the one piece top (check with Year One--they sell two types)---some tops come with seperate pieces for the a-pillars and the area below the rear glass---doesn't look quite original and could be a pain to attach these loose pieces properly. Be careful as I think the "premium top" I am describing is listed in their catalog as the cheaper priced top----call them and make sure they understand you want the one piece top.

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

    Mark,

If you have the 3/4 top with the rear bow running across behind the rear side windows, then you don't have a problem. Those studs that were removed by p.o. are available as phillips head screws. You will need to contact a trim shop in your area or a friendly body shop. Trim shop will only sell them by the box and I think the box holds 500.

Friday I plan to take the 72 down to a upolstery shop that has done work for me in the past. See what she can help me with. I would not have a problem with the rivits or studs in the 500 count box they will last me for a long time since I have a 69 GS Calif. that needs both 1/4s. repaced soon.
Does anyone sell the comlete set of the trim new or a boneyard part?
Also what trim codes do I need?
    Thanks

I think I have a full set of trim. Just checked the pot metal corners--usual pitting, but not bad for a driver. Will have to check the garage for the other 3 pieces. Reply or PM if interested

Friday I found the weld on studs for the trim. 15 bucks for a pack of 500, and I have access to a stud gun but looking for the excuse to get on for myself. Nichols I pm'd you.
Next friday I plan to go to an old yard that has some skylarks and look for the trim. What is the best way to get the trim off without damageing it?
On a good note went to Tulsa Raceway Park on Friday night and ran the Buick. Got the times down to a 15.19 just by driving changes. Stock rear 2:73? peg leg + 455+street tires=smoke!!!!
    But man was it fun.
