Hi , I wonder if it's a big job to remove the vinyl top ? Did all moulding goes out , the crest on the side stays ?? etc ...

Anyone has close pictures of 68 non-vinyl top to see the difference

    thank you

Vinyl top will come off easily once you get it started. It will take some work to remove the adhesive remaining on the roof before repainting.
The mouldings will have small "T" studs under them, welded to the sheet metal. You can remove & repaint or simply leave on & keep the mouldings.
Two tone paint & vinyl roof cars had the mouldings 70-72, I expect about the same 68-69.

3M makes a good glue removal product. I removed the vinyl top from my '72 gs 4+ years ago. remove all the chrome/stainless trim that secures the vinyl in place & tear off the vinyl roof.

It took me 5 months to decide what to do with the top : I made a decision !!!

I took it back off , starting with the stainless trim this afternoon !

Wonder if the sail panel "Skylark" emblem goes all the way throught the top ?? How to took the emblems off ?? And put them back on after repainting the car .

some huge changes waiting for my car , it's an older restoration and I'd like to do it the way i like it .

Ten years after I bought the car , it's gonna be like a new one !

    -No more vinyl top

    -No more fender skirt

    -No more side stainless molding

-No more white line tire (raised letters T/A next spring)

-No more "Oldsmobile" trim on the Hood (I bought it that way)

-Larger tire , going from 205/15 to 225/15

If you have some SCARLET RED picture to secure my choice It will be really appreciate !

    Thank you

I'll keep you inform of the developement :TU:

Consider this a "before" picture (2 weeks ago)

I am replacing mine too. I plan on doing the paint and body work myself. I ordered my vinyl top from Rick Hawkins of Wellington Classics. It cost $144 including shipping. Rick says it would be about two weeks to ship. My dilemma is whether to replace the top myself or to have it professionally installed. My neighbor had his vinyl top and headliner done for $300. It is worth noting that he did the paint and body work himself. I am not sure how much the top alone would cost. Depending on how much the top alone would cost, it would seem the cost would make it worth having it done.

So I too would welcome any advice.

    PS: Nice ride Donald

Have a pro install the vinyl roof. cheaper in the long run. When I had a new vinyl roof installed in 2009 after a repaint of my 72 gs, I paid the price to the pro and he performed an excellent job. Also had him install a new headliner. I purchased the vinyl roof from legendery ~~ $180. installation costs ~~ $500
