It is time for me to buy a replacement top for my 68 Lark. Anyone have any suggestions on whom to order it from? Original Parts Group is the only source I can find, and they list theirs as a 68 Chevelle top. I'm sure it's the same thing but I am a little curious.

Also I am about ready to paint the car. I'm wondering if I should paint and clear the top, and then put the vinyl on? or just leave it primed? Open for ideas.

I got mine (for a 70) from The Parts Place

I bought my 70/72 from year one, and I would paint the top.

I found the one from the parts place it is a little less than year one but it didn't give a description. Are you happy with yours?

Brian Year one is also doing a 10% off holiday special right now. I do not know if it will help the diffrence in price.

I bought a Year one top for my '72 GS about 4 years ago and have not been happy with the quality from day one. I had it professionally installed and within 1 year it had shrunk so much that it pulled out from under the trim pieces! :spank:

At two years old it lifted off both corners under the back windows just like the original one did after 25 years. :af:

I won't buy another one again. I would go right to the installer and have them buy one from their supplier that looks just like the origional but is more flexable.

Mike, They offer 2 tops which top did you buy. What type of glue was used on the top to adhear it to the car. I would like to hear your input. I have seen the year one tops on another car and it looks just as nice as the day it was put on (a few years).

I'm happy with my TPP top. I have not compared it side by side with an original, but the grain appears to be correct. It has pulled out of the trim in a spot or two, but I think that is more a function of my installation prowess (or lack thereof) rather than shrinkage...

Thanks guys! I bet most of them come from the same manufacturer.

I bought the premium top and the shop that did it is a very respectible shop. I know they had trouble with it trying to split as they were streaching it to make it fit. I just was not impressed with the quality of the material. I have seen a lot of tops since then and have asked the questions and all of them that I like the looks of are the thicker ones that the shops have supplied. The origional tops have all looked like they were thin and would shrink with time.

Mike, Mine was from Year One:

    6872VL60 Premium-series vinyl top

It felt Thick to me and went on very nice after all the pulling and tugging but other than that no problems. Maybe they are using a better material who knows. I took the advice from a fellow board member and he told me what top to buy and his has no sign of shrinkage... Thanks for replying back! :beer
