I currently have a 70 skylark and ripped off the vinyl roof. Is there an easier way to get all that glue off. I have been sanding and sanding and sanding....and the stuff is just real hard to get off.

Try 3m General Purpose Adhesive remover. Strong stuff. Comes in metal can you can buy at body supply store. I plan on using it on my roof glue as well. It should work. Be warned. It stinks!

There was a thread in this forum recently about using Axe cologne to remove window tint. That was supposed to be pretty effective, although the smell of it was reported to be pretty nasty, too. But the babes! Other suggestions in that link, too. Maybe some of them might work better.

i would suggest hitting up your local sign shop. they will no doubt have professional strength adhesive remover. when i worked in a sign shop we had some stuff that would take off damn near anything. i dont remember what the name was but it smelled like oranges :idea2: just ask them if they would sell you a bottle.

i did part of mine with acetone & a scotch brite pad.its a lot of work but it comes off.i also tried a small area with paint stripper,it took off the glue & left the factory primer.i think thats how i will complete the job.

    ~ WD-40
~ Oven Cleaner (wear safety equipment)
    ~ After market adheasive removers
~ Wire wheel on a drill (leaves deeper scratches but will be covered by vinyl)
~ And/Or lots of 80-60 grit sand paper on a DA

Also try lighter fluid or Carb cleaner. I used those to take factory decals off my car. Worked like a charm!

I'll bet the sandpaper you're using is too fine.

Don't think you need to use any chemicals. I'm with jtwax- use 60-grit and change the pad when it starts to gum up.

finally had my son use 50-grit and some elbow grease, got it all off. Now I am thinking, a new vinyl roof or just paint it ? I really like the appearance of the vinyl roof, but I assume it would be cheaper to paint it since the car will be painted anyway stratomist blue with maybe a white top.
