I actually got a lot done on the Wildcat this weekend. I am proud to say I have installed enough components of the Vintage Air system to be able to throw the box away that it came in (mild applause). The bad news is as I was digging through the box’s packaging to make sure I wasn’t throwing anything I needed away, I came across the packing slip……..June ’04……..yes 4 years! In my own defense, I purchased the Vintage Air system in what I call my “Recreational Drug- Auto Restoration Years”. The “I’m just gonna add A/C and cruise” good old days. I transitioned somewhere in ‘05/’06 into the “Black Tar Heroin…..It must ALL be replaced or rebuilt” phase. I expect the E! channel to call any day to do the reality show. I think I may have to “whore” it up some to close the deal. Who wants to play my drunk “bad influence” friend?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<o></o> <o></o> Rick <o></o>
Yes, it is on a nailhead. I used the recommended Sanden compressor. I wanted to use the A-6 with factory mounts but Vintage said the A-6 is too much for their system. I used a York/Sanden adapter. I can get the part # if needed. Vintage sells it. I then cut the "ears" off the factory mount and welded the York/Sanden plate to the top of the fatory mount. The "ears" are where the A-6 bolted to the mount. It has no other bracing. It is very sturdy much more sturdy than the jobs I've seen using their mounting kits. I had to request the lower profile rear exit compressor to make it fit under the hood. Rick
Thanks! The motor turned out nice. I hope the A/C works well. I certainly is taking some effort to get it done right. Rick
Perfect casting....anybody who shows up at every event with a trailer BBQ pit and an ice chest full of bruski would fill the bill. Mr. Wayne ain't nuthin but trouble either. Rick
Thanks! Here's a picture of the front before the compressor was mounted. The lower (uglier) weld bead is where the york mount starts. Rick
OH Thats Funny! ... and here I just thought you sold t-shirts to support your drug habit!uzzled: Wow! That's looking great! Did you go to all that trouble because you couldn't find a factory A/C set-up- especialy the rear bracket? ... uh... never mind... you'rs looks better anyway!:beers2:
If you're going to throw out that useless looking bracket sitting on top of your intake, I might be able to find a use for it. Nice looking motor and nice set-up on the compressor bracket. Looks just great! Good luck getting the rest of it installed. It's something I'd like to do someday to my Wildcat- I don't like sweating!
It is a stationary mount just like the OEM. The compressors double pully winds up in essentially the same place as the original A-6 location. The alternator is where the adjustment takes place. Probably 250 degrees of the full 360 degree pully is in contact with the double belt setup. Obviously I have not run it under a load yet. The A-6 would have worked great if the pressures were in tolerance. They say the Sanden is much more efficient. o No: AHHH65RIV: I wanted to stay original. But when I saw the holes I was going to need to cut in the firewall and then all the breakers, vaccuum operated switches and doors I decided to go with the aftermarket. I figured even if I got the OEM system installed correctly the cooling probably would be medicocre. I did have the rear bracket and sold it on ebay. At the time I didn't know how rare it was. 71GSX455-4SPD:That funny little bracket looked like it was bent so I threw it away.:eek2: Those puppies are hard to find too. Rick
