The VIN itself (I can't recall if its the last 5 or 6 digits) is stamped into the frame - on top of the frame under the left rocker as Brian stated, a second on the left rear rail under the trunk, mine is on the side of the frame rail near the tailpipe hanger. Mark
Yep, it should match the number on the tag in the door jamb and the number stamped on the front of the engine block. The first 5 digits of the VIN are the model number, then starting with the 6th digit is the year (5 for 65 in this case), then a letter for the plant (H for Flint, MI on my car), then the rest of the numbers are the serial number for the car. So the number on the frame and the engine block starts with the digit for the year and leaves off the 5 digit model number at the beginning.
Very interesting Brian. If you don't mind sharing the costs involved for the blasting and powdercoating I'd sure like to compare it to the prices around here. $$$$$$!!!!!!!!ou: Also since your great at taking and posting pics, would you take a closeup of the underside of the frame at the top of the arch where it goes over the rear. Mine seems deformed but perhaps not o No: Thanks!:TU:
Thanks Brian, Thanks for the picture, and I could use a close up of where the z-bar mount is welded to the frame. It looks like you are going the extra mile and then some. Good luck with it! Cheryl
I will snap a closeup of the bottom and of the clutch linkage attachment point when I get it back from being powder coated. Found a guy down here that will sandblast and do the powder coating for about $500. He has a major operation and does all of the compressor frames and reciever tanks for one of the Ingersoll Rand plants where they make portable diesel compressors. He did the frame for a friend of mine's '78 F-250 4x4 and we picked it up with my trailer when we dropped my car frame off--it looked awsome--almost too good!
This is a really old post. If you do a search for a thread started by me called "The '65 GS is painted now", you will find lots of pictures of the car. I would do it and post the link, but I don't know how to copy/paste the links in here.
I moved several of Brian's old posts ttt. They are most instructive! And the end result is awesome. Thanks Brian :TU: Frame "before" Finished Frame Pictures Clutch linkage details The Finished GS!
3rd week car I too have a 3rd week GS from the Flint MI plant . The guy I got it from said it was a factory Demo when he bought it . In August of 65
