Just pulled the trans out of my 70 GS 350 and want to verify the numbers. The only numbers that I have found that are stamped in the trans are: 48Z159451.

Nothing matches the vin number - any advice?

4=Buick, 8=1968,Z=Fremont assembly plant, 159451=last six digits in the VIN of the car that was built with this transmission.

Your trans is from another car--a 1968 model made in Cal.

    Thanks guys - next question. Any difference between a 1968 TH350 and a 1970 TH350? Besides age?

Is there any possibility that this transmission could be out of a 1978 model? There were some metric bolts on it, so that raised the question.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Okay - after doing some more research, it looks as if GM didn't even put the Turbo 350 until the 1969 model year, so that would have to mean this is from a 1978 model year car, right? :Do No:

Still confused and I haven't even asked about the motor numbers yet. They are hard to read!!

Basically, No, but calibrations can vary depending on the actual car it came out of. Shift valves and governors can vary a bit. Nothing that would be insurmountable. There is really no way to be more specific about this and no way to tell from any ID numbers on the transmission.
