Velcro instead of clips?

We've all seen them, those little clips that hold your door panel on....bitch to install, not great to remove, tend to work and put dimples on the face of your door panels, or better yet tear right out after a couple removals

Has anyone ever considered using small sections of velcro instead of these clips, did it work and were there any problems?? (like removal of panel perhaps?).

Tim, By adding the velcro would this raises the surface of the door panel from the door? When shutting the door the panel would rub on the door jams and cause premature wear. Just a thought

Also the heat from the summer will get to teh adhesive on the backing of the velcro and make it fall apart. I hate the clips, but I think they're a better insurance than velcro..

    Tim,
A couple removals???? What the heck are you doing?????? Hiding some loot in your doors??????

Once I finish a car, there is no need to remove the door panels again. When you restore your car, take your time and grease the latch mechanism, window regulator and pw motor if equipped. Once done, there are no reasons I can think of to remove the door panel again unless you have a pw motor stop working and/or a pdl solenoid stop working.

I've had my door panels off about five times in six months. I've also thought about these clips, but I think I'll live with them as they are. When I'm at a yard and I'm digging around for stuff, I'll try to grab a few becuase I know I'll need them, and they keep breaking.

I'm putting in a new vinyl back window on the car, and I'm using these push buttons around three sides on it, but on the bottom I'm going to use velcro. I couldn't use the push buttons becuase of an added piece of rubber. It says on the velcro package that uv rays can get the adhesive and that you shouldn't use it under water. But the adhesive is strong stuff, it takes 24h for it to bond properly, but after that it will be stuck pretty good.

The big cars have the plastic clips that break if you look at them the wrong way. Good thing Auto Zone carries them in stock! I'd be SOL if they didn't.

 Thats funny, George!!! I guess I was thinking that I've had the door panels off my 71 about 5 times since I have owned it but then again, thats not bad for 18 years!!! And some of that was to clean things up, etc.

We have very good quality velcro at work, and I'm not wrried about the adhesive coming off, I would be more worried about actually wrecking the door to take take it apart if I ever need to and the thickness thing is a good point....still an intriquing idea.

There has to be a better way.

Then again, maybe it is the contact cement fumes (I'm doing the rest of the iinterior right now).
