Vapor canister charcoal filter. The one in the engine compartment by the fender.

I bought the small round white filter element that apparently goes in the bottom of the canister. No problem there.

I also bought one of these from Rock Auto (WIX 42291 Carbon Canister Pad) it looks like it should go inside the can...but the can is sealed, no way to get in.

Can someone tell me what's inside of the canister for a 71 Buick gs? Mine is empty, except some cobwebs and what may be the scattered remains of an old filter?

If its only activated charcoal inside with the bottom filter holding it in, where can I get some of that?

    Thanks!

That's great, thanks for the pics. So you just pack that thing full then put the pad on to hold it in?

Yep, just activated charcoal (fish tank stuff) and then put the yellow 'fiberglass' filter in the bottom. That's all there is to it.
