been a LOOONG time since I've been on the board..

I've been in the process of a long drawn-out "ONE-WEEK" soft parts rebuild on my 425 for my '64 rivi.

Decided to have a spare set of heads rebuilt to cut down on "down time" , AND i wanted a bit more flow.. My quest was for 11/32" stem valves in the right length, head diameter, and with an undercut.. so after days of searching the internet and catalogs I found what I was looking for...

2300cc FORD 4 cylinder OHC engine:

4.800" in length (stock nail 4.787" or so), 1.89" intake, 1.59" exhaust, 11/32" stem reduced to .303" at undercut (as opposed to .344" {= 11/32"})... come in sets of 8 (four intake, four exhaust) so order 2 sets (about $70-$80 per set).. sets come with 7degree locks also. Phone number for ordering these valves: 503-257-7947 they're located in Oregon

only drawback is .500" tip length.. so I had my machinist machine grooves higher up on the stem

My machinist is also using stock Buick 225 keepers with, I believe, different (I think chebby) locks.. and TA Performance stock replacement nailhead springs..

My heads already had hardened seats and, more importantly, stock valve guides which had been bored out to accept chebby 3/8" I.D. replacement guides, so it was just a matter of knocking out the 3/8" I.D. inserts and pressing in 11/32" I.D. inserts.. My machinist also cut down the part of the guides that was protruding into the runners..

Hopefully these little improvements will aid my beast in breaking into the 14's before I have to swap out my 3.07 ears for a 3.23 posi I just picked up. Now for the bloody snow to melt :Dou:

I HOPE THIS HAS BEEN HELPFUL IN YOUR QUEST FOR 11/32" STEM VALVES IN THE CORRECT LENGTH AND AT A REASONABLE PRICE.

Before you get too far along, talk with Tom T and BobW aka 66GSconv. They know all about what your doing.

    Good Luck

ive talked with tom MANY times...

he suggested chebby valves, but they are a bit long and i was just more comfortable having a valve that is closer to the correct length, even if there would be no real problem since i have his roller rockers..

they guy doing my heads is an old hot rodder and he likes what i'm doing with the nailhead so he's doing it all for $200 (plus cost of valves which i bought previously)..

besides, the old guy gets to "play with his lathe" as he put it

i was just trying to put out the word about these valves.. i figured someone might appreciate the fact that there's a valve close to the correct length, in slightly larger diameter, with an 11/32" stem and an undercut, and a great price to boot (cost me $160 for the full set, cost more than on ebay only because i decided to call rather than play with that nonsense).

    Great info Wes!:TU:

    But I've got "MANLEY" valves!!!

How in the heck did you find those? Seems like they ought to work. I haven't heard of EPN. I hope their quality is "up to snuff". That would really suck to have a valve stem break, bend, delaminate, or burn up after going to all that trouble, and we all know (or at can least immagine) what happens when a valve and piston meet. I don't mean to cast doom and gloom and poo-poo your find, but just be carefull because you often get what you pay for.

UPDATE:>>> These ARE Manley Valves :TU:

Same part number's and all: http://www.flatlanderracing.com/manfordvracemast2300.html

Found out when my head builder jacked up a valve on the lathe and he had to replace it. :Dou:

    So these ARE reputable valves.
