I have a set of TA roller tip rockers on my 455. It has a hydrolic lifters and when you start it up it sounds fine but after it is warmed up and is idleing, it makes a ticking noise. you can't hear it unless you put your ear to the valve cover. it comes from both sides. I checked the lash and it is right. I was wondering since it only holds 20 psi oil pressure at 800 RPM, will this make noise. It will increase as the motors RPMs are brought up too. I pulled the valve covers off and there is plenty of oil on the top and the lifters are all pumped up tight. Is it common for valvetrain noise, I put exhaust on it recently. you could never hear it over open headers.
I am assuming that you see 20 psi at 800 rpm, and that's your idle speed. 10 psi is an acceptable amount at idle, according to the documentation I received from my TA adjustable oil pressure regulator. I see about 14 or so, although I haven't hooked my gauge up since I built the engine 4 years ago. I don't know much about the roller rockers- I haven't put mine in yet, but your oil pressure seems fine to me.
There shouldn't be any ticking at idle, unless you are running Rhoads lifters. Are you sure that ALL of your lifters are staying pumped up?? I had this problem with a nasty hydr. cam and valve springs that were too strong for lifters to stay pumped up at an idle What cam and lifters are you running?
the crower cam i don't know what series, but the specs are .507 lift on the intake and 525 on exhaust on a 108 lobe center. the springs i don't know the brand but is only 300lbs springs. A lot of chevy guys have said that their roller tipped rockers are a lot louder than mine. I hope this is normal.
Roller rockers make some noise. Fact of life. I expect that's true for the roller tip rockers as well.
That's true, but stock rockers shouldn't make any noise. You should check for excessive wear on rocker shafts...o No:
