Valve Body Question - Does this look right?

I am rebuilding the transmission on the ST400 for my '65 Riviera. When I pulled the valve body I noticed that the part on the other side of the manual valve looks crooked (see pictures). Before I attempt to remove this or straighten it out, is it supposed to be like this? Can it be removed and if so, which way to remove? I cannot see any sort of clip holding it in place

    Thanks
    Doug

That doesn't look right to me. I pulled a spare valve body and took some pictures of the same area. I can easily pull that valve out the other end. BTW, the SP valve bodies lack a 3-2 valve in a lot of cases, so no downshift except at full throttle. They will also cause the transmission to shift earlier into high gear at WOT. I replaced mine with a valve body out of a 71 THM400.

    Thanks Larry

The part I am referring to isn't even included in your valve body. It is separate from the manual valve (see my new pictures). I was able to remove it, but if I place it back in straight the manual valve pushes it right out (I can only imagine what it will do if it falls out when the trans is working).

The more I examined it the more it looks like someone broke the end off a manual valve and stuck it in the other end of the valve body (see third picture). The end of it even looks rough; like it broke off something else. Maybe I don't need it?

Also, I was not clear in my original post, this is a later model VB (not sure from what) with a flat filter and 3-2 valve

Yeah, I don't know what that is. My guess is it doesn't belong there.

It almost looks like that "top hat" portion of that piece is broken off. Like there was something more to it.... I was in my transmission all last weekend and didn't see anything like that. Any shavings in the pan? Is the rest of that piece still attached to the underside of the transmission?

After looking closer, it almost looks like the valve broke at one time and replaced with a new one and whoever idd the job left the broken tip in there. Was this piece in the pan or sticking out of the valve body like that?

Ryan, that is exactly what was thinking. It was in valve body when I pulled it out, just like is shows in my first pictures. There was no other remains of an old manual valve. I have not seen anything like it before and see nothing else in that place in the valve body in any diagrams. I am going to leave it out. It clearly does not belong.

    Thanks all

Ahhh yes that looks like a piece of a manual valve, that has the s clip on the other end, amazing how that could break, I can imagine the guy who broke it thinkink, " dam i know this valve broke but i cant find whare it went. hmmmmm, oh well ...I would toss it and add a few more magnets to your pan.
