hey guys. I need some help from you all. I'm trying to figure the value of a set of drive train components that I can get for a buddie of mine
I've also asked this before but I'd thought to ask it again.

I can get a TH-400 (BOP pattern)2400 RPM stall converter, custom light weight heavy duty drive shaft and a chevy 12 bolt rear with 3.73's and posi. Personaly I'd rather get 3.0x's or so and it is the carrier that would work for it. all that are currently under my buddys GS with a chebby 350 in it... yea i know he didnt know at the time either.

since these were last rebuilt they have about 20k miles on it. along with some strip use.

I will be putting a 455 in front of all this equipment but i need to know a reasonable value to offer.

    Thanks guys,
    Nate

    Nate,
If you're considering using that in your car, with the 455, that sounds like a good "setup" already!:Smarty:

To give you some ideas for "value", I just bought a (BOP) TH400, last week, for $100. To rebuild it (myself), will be another $125.

2400 Stall Converter, another $150 (from my supplier, anyway).

Chevy 12 Bolt Rearend with 3.73 Posi?:Do No:
Guessing anywhere from $100 to $800 (swap meet prices that I've seen, anyway.)

The 3.73 gear would be GOOD for the 455/TH400! You would be able to get a decent "Launch" if you get on it, but you would also be able to "Cruise" on the Highway without having it feel like it's "stuck in 1st or 2nd Gear".:Smarty:

If you change it to a "3.0_", you may not have as much "Acceleration Power" that you might want.

In other words, if you change the 350 to a 455, but keep the "Same ratio Rear End" (as a Stock type 3.08, for example), you won't be gaining as much as you might think you'd want, you might as well keep the 350 in it, because that's almost NOT even a "Noticeable" difference.:Smarty:

As far as a "fair" offer (you might think it's High, but I'll break it down as to how I would offer: ):

    TH400 (rebuilt)- $150
    2400 Stall Converter (used)- $75
    12 Bolt/3.73 Rear End- $300 (fair offer)

Total Offer- $525 (Reasonable, for "swap meet" prices):Smarty:

If you can get it for "Less", Good Luck, Nate! Let me know what you decide!:TU:

    yea scott.

though that seems really really low. a 12 bolt posi for 300 bucks??? where the heck can I find that and i'll take 4. the trans and such seems about right or a lil low but not bad. and I dont want to rip off my buddy and there would be no way he'd go that much for all of it.

A little late, now, Nate, but there's a Swap Meet in Cedar Rapids, IA, TODAY :ball: (I can't go, I'm doing a brake job on the Buick, and I HAVE to get it DONE!:Do No: ). You (or "I", anyway:TU: ) would find your parts THERE for about that price!

I found/BOUGHT a set of (4) Chevy ('70 Corvette, even) Rallye Rims (including Center Caps and Trim Rings!) for a buddy's '69 Camaro for "$100", Last Year, There!
The guy that I bought them from DIDN'T know what they were (off of) or what they were "worth" (to MY Advantage!:Smarty: )

Replacement cost of the Center Caps ALONE are "$85 EACH!":Smarty:
    Do the math:
(Using prices for '70 Corvette "Replacement")
    Center Caps (x4) @ $85= $340
    Rallye Wheels (x4) @ $125= $500
    Trim Rings (x4) @ $80= $320

    Total (Wheels, Trim Rings and Center Caps)= $1,160.00 (For "$100", I think I did pretty good!:Smarty: )

The "Deals" are out there to be had, Nate, you just have to be in the "right place at the right time", sometimes!:TU: I try to be "there" as OFTEN as I can (Swap Meets, Car Shows, Drag Races, Car Club Cruises/Meetings, etc.). You just never know who has what, until you start talking to guys at those events, and you might end up with what you're looking for, from a guy that you'd LEAST expect!:Smarty:

Another example, I bought a '70 GS Air Cleaner (Complete, but disassembled in a box), at a BOP Swap Meet, from a "Pontiac guy", who had NO CLUE what it was! I didn't tell him what it was, but just said I was interested in the FRONT PIECE for the Underside Scoops. He didn't want to "separate" it, so I asked him what he wanted for it. I got the WHOLE Air Cleaner for "$50"! I "Restored" it, and that's what's on my '70 Skylark Convertible, Right Now!:bglasses:

Some guys have "accused" me of "Ripping people off", that way (because I PAID LESS for it, because I KNEW that it was WORTH MORE, but I DIDN'T TELL the person that was SELLING it!).
WHY SHOULD I?:Dou: To PAY more? I don't THINK so!:moonu:

"You're only asking $50 for that GS Air Cleaner? Oh, no, I HAVE to give you, At Least $200! That's what they're going for, in the NEXT AISLE OVER!"
(You would say that, RIGHT? )

If they WANT more money, they should do the research and KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE, BEFORE they SELL it!:Do No: :TU: :Smarty:

LOTS of people I know would be happy to get even a 12-bolt core housing for $300! Drop-kick the open diff and gears into the nearest dumpster, toss in a posi and the gears of choice!:Do No: :TU:

Not saying that I'd pay $300 for housing, axles and a pinion yoke though.....!:error:
