Hey Guys; I ran across a local listing for a '99 Riviera claiming it was a Silver Arrow (1 of 200 made :TU: ). Car has 25K miles and apparently has been garaged and well maintained. Now, I have not seen this car to verify it is a Silver Arrow or it's condition, but assuming it is and in nice condition, what would you think the value would be? I'm interested in the car, but my first impression is the guy is looking for too much. Opinions please?
If a '99 has some sort of collectable value maybe you find people paying more, but most used Buicks in that age range, regardless of low miles probably wouldn't sell for more than 8 or 9 thousand. My grandparents have a great condition, low mileage 1998 Park Avenue which is only worth about 7 or 8 thousand.
I would agree that if it was a "normal" '99 Riv, the value wouldn't be much more than about $8K - $9K, however, the Silver Arrow was a limited edition of only 200 units, which is gotta add some value, just want some insight as to how much? Larry: Has your Riv been pretty dependable? No major issues?
Very dependable. The 95-99 Rivs are very nice cars. The 98-99 are definitely the best though. lots of power, great gas mileage, excellent ride and comfort. Nicest car I have ever owned. Drive one and see.
Here's one you can follow and see how it does. http://motors.search.ebay.com/1999_...ZQQsargnZQ2d1QQsaslcZ2QQsbrftogZ1QQsofocusZbs
Seems silly considering it is really only a limited edition of a few plastic emblems and embroidered head-rests. It's not like it's a GNX or something.... But I do agree, they are nice cars.
25k might be high. But there are only 200 of them in the world "200 of the '99 Riviera's will have a distinctive silver exterior, a paint color not available on any other '99 Riviera, and will be badges as the Riviera "Silver Arrow" - a name recalling a 1963 Riviera concept car. Besides the Sterling Silver metallic paint on the '99 Silver Arrow, there are plans for exterior logos, replacing the name Riviera just behind the doors on both sides. The logos consist of the Silver Arrow name in capital letters underlined by and arrow in design taken from the '63 concept car. There will also be a plaque on the instrument panel with the Silver Arrow logo and the series number (for example, 7/200) and headrests embroidered with the Silver Arrow logo." Hell yeah! The last of the Rivieras? Totally worth blowing a fair bit of money on.
Doug, I've been watching later model Riv prices for a couple years now and Silver Arrows always stand out a little more. I recall one on eBay a while back. I think it had 6-7 miles and reserve was $40K. Never saw a bid on the car, but it did not reappear on eBay or anywhere else. Silver Arrows that are high miles 100K+ seem to run $10-$12K. I haven't seen any lower mileage ones, but the high mileage ones are snapped up pretty quickly at those prices. At a guess, if this guy has all the stuff that came with the car (cover, documentation, literature, etc.) I wouldn't be surprised if he asks $20K. $15K would be a steal. Are the prices crazy? o No: Probably so. But I think that about the prices for GS convertibles, GNX's, GN's, GSX's too. (But it never stops us from wanting them, does it?)
I just love it when you get so emotional Trev, a very rare car indeed ! I totally agree with you - throw the cat another goldfish ! ! ! :beer :TU:
Thanks for the input guys. I agree it is a nice car and it only has 25,000 miles (41,000 km's). I'll go check out the car and see what he has. Based on the comments, it seems his asking price is reasonable at $14K CAN.
Yeah, I don't think exchange rates were very favorable back then for our neighbors up north. The worst rate (Canada point of view) I've seen the past several years, in dealing with CDN vendors, was around .66 or so. It's around .85 these days, not good for me to buy product from Canada.
your not kidding... when I bought my Electra in Nevada in 2002, the exchange rate was 40% (ouch).. I'm lovin' the current rates!
