I have a question.....hope someone can give me an answer on it. I have a 3.23 open rear end out of my 8.2 1970 GS. Original rear end. what is the going rate for something like that...... is anyone going to want an 8.2 open diff, or will they just want the gears?

I would think just the gears, but even that might be tough since most folks that would even consider a 3.23 are looking to upgrade to a posi anyway. And if you're upgrading to posi you generally want at least the 3.42s.

We've been thinking about upgrading the wife's 2.73 to a posi 3.55 rear using the Auburn unit & Richmond gears. If she wants to run the tall gear like what you have, perhaps we could go Powertrax instead since the carrier wouldn't have to be changed out.

    I'll check and see.

I've been considering the Powertrax option for my 70 skylark and emailed the tech department to ask about availability for my specific vehicle. The reply was "If the axle is the B-P axle the part number for the Powertrax No-Slip locker is: 92-0782-2801"

I had assumed that would be correct, until reading this forum closely, where some posts seem to indicate that the 70 buick 8.2 is a unique unit, different from the B-P unit of the same year. Anyone done the Powertrax locker? I'd love to have this unit as it is supposedly very streetable, reasonably priced, can be installed without having to adjust the ring and pinion backlash, eliminates the spider gears, which are one of the weak points of the the 8.2 . I just don't want to order one and have it not fit. Also, it can only be used in an open rearend. Any thoughts?

I think the gears in a 70 will fit 68-70 Buick only 8.2 . I am not 100% sure but I think the gear set will work in posi or open differential with a 2 series carrier. So this would probably be a good upgrade to, say... 2.90's gears. I think 3.31 is the break point where they are a 3 series carrier.

I'd love to have a 2 series carrier and those 3.23 gears... would be a nice upgrade from my 2.56 posi. Sorry Mike, I don't know what they are worth, and I've spent too much on the Riv lately anyway.

    Mike,

I am actually looking for a set of 3.23's for my 67. I am not sure if 70's will work in my rear??? Roger,... anyone???

I would only be interested in the gears though. This is so I will have the option to upgrade my Auburn Pro Posi that I had put in about a year ago. Since I got the lower series carrier to keep my 2.93s, 3.23 is the lowest gear I can go.

I have no idea what they would be worth?? :Do No:

Sorry guys....... the rear end is gone. Had an interested party passing through town, and he took the whole thing with him.

    Thanks
