Vacuum sources on a 66 Riviera Q-jet Hi there... Can anyone out there please tell what purpose the BIG vacuum outlet on my Q-jet is normally used for/what purpose.. (located under fuel Inlet, left side) The other "smaller one" is for the distr vacuum canister My Q-jet is the stock model fitted for a 66 ( carb nr: 7026240) As mine is at the moment PLUGGED Any pointers would be appreciated... Sturla
Hmmm.. Guess it's the PCV valve.. which I no longer have fitted ( chrome valve covers with breathers instead).. Correct?
You may want to reconsider not using the the PCV system. If I recall I think the PCV air has some effect on idle as well as reducing pollution and crankcase vapors that can work their way into the passenger compartment. I imagine the shop manual would cover this. The engine/carb was not designed for natural crankcase ventilation.
Okay then.. You guys are "the experts", I'm just a novice on this.. I have the old valve covers and a functioning pvc valve..So I'll get it back on tomorrow.. Sturla.. P.s, then I guess I have some Nailhead Chrome valve covers from EElco for sale..
OR.... Is there like and "adapter" or somewhat enabling me to fit a PVC valve in the existing valve covers ( chrome ones from Eelco) ? Fitting the "adapter" and the PVC valve in one of the "breather" fittings on the valve cover? Sturla
An "adapter"/grommet like this might work ( depending on the diameter on the Breather hole ) ? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Buic...rQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_1884wt_939
Of Course. There is no reason that you can't drill a hole in your chrome cover, and use the right grommet to mount the PCV.
Okay then... Should I run 2 breathers and a PCV valve? Would the PCV valve still function as intended ( using 2 breathers and 1 PCV valve) ? Sturla BTW .. Thanks alot for your input..
You can use as many breathers as you like. The important thing is that you have a hose hooked to the PCV nipple on the Q-Jet, and a PCV valve on the other end of that hose, with the PCV secure in the right grommet.
Thanks.. You guys rock..!!! I'll check the old valve covers for the "most OEM position" for the PCV valve and start drilling then..
