Need a Vacuum hose diagram for 4B Rochester carb, Ram air, into heater controls, vacuum pod, Etc.
There is one decal on the 71' engine compartment hood frame, but can't make heads or tails.
Done a search, but no luck

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks in advance

    Scott,
The vacuum hose diagram for the engine is on pages 67-11 to 67-13 in the 71 Buick chassis service manual. The diagrams for the heater/ a/c are in sections 12 and 13. Hope you have a 71 service manual.
    Good Luck, Clark

    <center>Good point Steve.
What about the Vacuum Pod on the Firewall?
How does that get hooked up?

    Steve,

The tee hooks to the air cleaner temp sensor for the vacuum door in the air cleaner snorkle. The open port on the TCS solenoid is a vent, if that is the one you're asking about. The vacuum pod hooks directly to the rear port on the carb. Hope this helps.

    <center>:Do No:
I'm back to this problem here:

What do you call that Black thingy on the Firewall?
It has two different hose sizes.
It's definitely for Vacuum and is kinda roundish.
What can go wrong w/ this thing?
Anyone ever disect one? Chop Chop
    Is there anything inside?
Other than the junk yard, and if mine is bad, where can I get one?

Sorry I don't have a pic at this time.

    Thanks

That is your vacuum canister. It is a vacuum reservoir mainly for HVAC doors. I guess it could leak, but I've never seen one rupture. Do you have a nice tight seal (i.e. are your vacuum lines the right size)?

<center>So what is the symptom of it is not working?
Flaps on the dash in conjunction w/ the heater controls won't work or what?
I don't understand what this thing does.

My vacuum guage works fine on my added guage.

    This is seriously bugging me!

    Anyone..
    Anyone?

    Thanks

    <center>Marco,

<center>This weekend I'll disconnect (Vacuum canister) and bypass the hoses by connecting them together w/ a vacuum fitiing
    (Help section local auto emporium)

    I think you are right.
I've had it disconnected from the black thingy for many years.
I'll let you know what happens,
Seems like I then have control on the heater off all my vent flaps on the dash.
    I'll keep ya posted.

    Thanks again!

    Scott,
The missing hose connection at the TCS stays missing. Factory supplied a small air filter over this port. Vacuum from the carb. is routed to the back of the TCS. Once the solenoid is activated by the trans. (3rd gear only) the vacuum (ported or manifold I'm unsure) gets applied to the distributor.
The vacant port is air intake to the TCS internals. Why I don't know but would guess as air to fill the vacuumn void when the TCS is not activated.
The arrow in the pic pointing to the TCS is really indicating the hose behind it. 6" hose to a "T" fitting which picks up the air door switch on the breather & one side of the TVS.
TVS will pass the ported vacuum into the distributor. Should the car be idling for an extended period & engine temps. go above a certain point, the TVS will switch positions internally. This allows manifold vacuum direct to the distributor, raising rpm of the engine & the ever important cooling fan. Factory intent was to cool itself down using this methos but not sure how good it was.

The vacuum reservoir on the firewall holds a vacuum. Allows for adjusting the HVAC even when the engine is off. Not sure how many operations it will last for but not many is my guess. Fed from the rear of the carb. at the base with a vacuum hoes. Small port goes to small hose from your heater/AC controls in the dash.

    <center>Problem resolved.
    Yahoo!

Appearently this Black vacuum resevouir canister pod in my car does have an effect.
It does control the flaps for the heater, defroster, and vent, inside and on the dash.

I found one at the junk yard.
I've replaced my old one now.
Cost me $4.75 from a pick a part and Walaa!
    It is now working.
    Don't ask me......

    For the record:

I managed to cut the old one in half and there is really nothing I can see.
Nor, is there really anything in there, Baffleing......with dust
I am thinking maybe my old one was clogged at one of the pin holes or something?

<img src="http://images.scottfisher.multiply.com/image/1/photos/3/600x600/104/GS-001.jpg?et=%2B6DnGuv5b2iKWPlM%2BBNwZg&nmid=128721847" <img alt="SILVERLIGHT: WHY NOT LISTEN TO LIVE KFOG-FM, SAN FRANCISCO, SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA, STREAMING WHILE YOU WORK, CLICK HERE" width="720" align="center"><br>

    Another one bites the dust.
    Another problem solved...
    Thanks Frank Brooks
