Can anyone tell me if original stock on a 67' 340 carb was a full time advance or timed advance? I have an Edelbrock 600cfm that came on the car I bought and can't seem to get it tuned just perfect. I set the initial timing but when I hook up the vacuum advance hose to either one of the ports on the front of the carb it shoots my timing to nearly 25-30 degrees advance and rpm through the roof. Both ports constantly suck while the hose is off. Right now I have been just driving around with the thing disconnected until I figure out why this is happening. I can't leave it hooked up because with that much advance my car diesels for a long long time before it sputters and dies. Any info or thoughts will be appreciated.

If manifold vacuum is all you have to work with, I'd say that this is a case for one of "Ignition Mans" vacuum stops. I think Smartin had some real good pictures of his. That'll solve the problem.
