I'm doing some work to a 71 X and it has a booster with no stamp on it at all. Need to know if I can get away with a repro booster or if I need to find a restorable upside down stamped one.
I guess it depends. As you know, the stamping on a factory booster, is super light. It's actually hard to see. On the repro boosters, the stamping is much heavier and clearly stamped delco moraine. A repro is pretty easy to spot
I believe it is hit and miss with the upside-down stamp. I think at one time someone was reproducing one with the upside-down stamp, not sure if they are still doing so.
I thought '71 X's were mostly late cars. Pretty sure the booster on my late '71 Flint car is orig. I'll take a look.
Here's what I'm nearly positive is the orig. booster from my late (05C) '71 Flint GS (right side up/right side in pic). Disregard the grey primer - The girls (girlfriend of the orig. owner had some mechanical aptitude) who were "restoring" it back in the 80's went a little crazy w/it. It then sat partially disassembled in the girlfriend's garage for almost 30 years. I removed the booster however & there were zero signs it had ever been out.
Cool.. I have a couple calls into others who have original 71's....if that jives with yours, I will just do the right side up stamp.
Platinum Mist with black bucket interior. Consolette. Stage1 4 speed. Will get option list when I get home.
Thanks Adam, wow Stage 1 4 speed, figured it would be a 350 auto trans car ,post some pics and really interested to know its factory option load?
I totally forgot to get more info on it....will grab it tomorrow! So far, I have one 71 X with NO stamping on it, and another original with an right side up stamp. I think I'm going to leave this one alone for now.
