Just about to start my rebuilt 350, I put hei in my 71. The original upper hose hits the cap. You experienced guys, help me. Do I get the hose for the 1975 Skylark 350 which as 1st year for hei, or do I have to use that ugly flex stuff??

    upper hose

I just put HEI in my '72, and the upper hose I got from Carquest (they re-lable Gates products) cleared fine.

I used an HEI in a Olds 442 I used to have. Now I am into Buicks and would use nothing but MSD. TO many problems with HEI. especially where the dist. is in front and so visible. Just my opinion.

I forget what hose I got. I basically brought the old one in and had it matched to something close that was longer. I put it on backwards so the curve was from the radiator and the hose then went fairly straight into the gooseneck.

I also took off the distributor cap, rotated the distributor so the vacuum advance would be further away from the hose, and put it back in so everything was still lined up correctly relative to TDC. I just made sure the rotor and the #1 spot on the cap remained lined up.

Mine is really close, but I don't have a problem. You might be able to move the gear over 1 tooth to get the dist in the right spot..
