OK Guys, I'm looking for some help here. My question has several parts.

    1. I am in the process of installing new carpet. When I was under the dash, I hear what sounded like an electrical short, a buzzing, snapping sound. I immediately disconnected the battery and took off the lower part of the dash. I can't see anything that jumps out on me like frayed wires and all the connections appear to be OK. I'm not too good at tracking down electrical issues, but I have the complete wiring diagram. Where is a good place to start.

    2. While I was under there, I thought about changing out the old glass tube fuse panel with the newer style plug fuses. I am assuming that is a hugh job, am I correct? Where is the best place to get a new style fuse box if I decide to do it? What would be involved in moving it to underhood or someother more acessible location? Remember, this is a B body Lesabre.+

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Best bet is to leave it factory. It is a large pain, and then it no longer matches a reference. The glass fuses are easily obtained as they are still used in home/office equipment. The plastic fuses might have a mode modern look, but unless you plan to rebuild the entire wiring harness, I don't think it would be worth it to rewire just the fusebox.

A lot of new cars have their fuse boxes mounted under hood, but they planned it that way. The biggest caveat in this project is that with wiring. The least amount of splices the better, so extending 12 wires two feet into the engine comparment is bad economy.

If it burns up I would switch it, but until the entire harness is out I would leave it alone.
